I don’t have a go pro and I’m not going to zip tie my phone under there the noise is heard the worst with the slider open. To me I thought the drive shaft angle was wrong but from what I’ve read that would vibrate bad st lower speeds. I’m hoping it’s leaf springs orders 3 degree shims and no I never greased the leaf springs. I doubt I’ve damaged my drive shaft as stated OME recommended this kit for this specific truck being a RC and all around it’s less than 3 inches of lift. Noise has stayed the same for 15k miles. I’ll be in Colorado for 2 weeks so I’m hoping to have a 4x4 shop look at it.

oh for sure don't waste zip ties holding the phone. that's what friends are for! lol

ungreased polyurethane and metal. it's an annoying symphony of sounds. the leafs, check the pads like mentioned above and grease the shackle bushings. (or replace stock with thr poly ome bushings). Use grease with molybdenum in it.

have the bp51 with dakars setup (+3.5") and didn't need any shims. i am running the carrier bearing drop but no shims. there is a slight driveline vibration around 10mph-12mph and does it regardless of the carrier bearing shim present. I thought about axle. shims. Maybe when I pull the rear end apart for the hydrobumps I'll throw an axle shim to see if it helps.

What I'm getting at is the engineering that went into our trucks is hard to keep when monkeying around with the suspension. It comes with the territory. like an annoying neighbor who keeps insisting their terrible drum. playing is getting better... lol

one final thought...noises like this are usually something loose. I'd also look at the tolerances with the shackles in the hangers for slop/play and/or a loose bolt. hopefully it's something simple and haven't done any long term damage besides your sanity trying to get it figured out.

Kasnerd thanks for the support the Dakar’s are the new ones all the pads are great, I did find a lose bolt on the leaf springs but that was not the cause of the sound. It is worse in 4H. But did go away with the clutch so it could be a slow to wear throw out bearing. I have the RC so there was no carrier bearing drop for me. I suppose the worst case is I get to rebuild the front rear and tranny? Ordered the shims hopefully they help. I’m still taking the risk and going to Colorado to visit family hopefully it’s reliable there and back.

failing bearings (shudders). that's the gift that keeps on giving and having to do a rebuild
...not cool. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Still sounds like the leafs to me. That Is, and I can't stress this enough, the exact sound mine made. if you don't want to spray them add the hard plastic at the tips. Cost you nothing.

I over do EVERYTHING, a part looks worn I change the whole system and I wouldn't rebuild the front diff and transmission because of that noise.

Everything you describe, even in 4WD and letting off the clutch relates to the rear leaf movement under load.

If your going to go the route of rebuilding the front diff and transmission, it's alot easier to just buy new ones.

Correlation is not causation at least they say that in statistics it occurred to me yesterday that my yolk was clinking before the suspension upgrade so... I’ll put on the axle shims lube the leafs, and probably while I have use of a full shop in Colorado I might swap out my Ujoints and yolk. If the noise continues past that I’ll drive it until something for sure breaks lol. Anyone in CO wanna help? I’ll be near Stramboat Springs.

yea...yolks/links/etc. easy enough to replace those (with the truck on a lift) and keep the better looking parts as trail spares. mine are 70k miles on them and they keep creeping into the back of my mind for replacement around 100k,regardless of symptoms.

Grr changed u joints out in shims noise was still there. Took off rear drive shaft no noise. Greased the yoke no noise so now I’ll have a greasable drive shaft made for my truck. I thought it started to have too much play awhile back but the dealership and 5 shops said it was fine. Today we found the problem in 20 minutes I hate mechanics sometimes.

Yes glad to have found it turns out it’s a common problem in the 2nd gen RC. I’ll get some quotes from local places and go from there hopefully my redneck fix holds up on my trip.

So you found a common issue for a regular cab?

Well once I figured out the problem I found it listed here on TW and other forums with any RC cab with a lift. I’m hoping I can find a drive shaft at a junk yard while I’m in Colorado.

Would you happen to know the part number for the OME bushings to use in the OEM shackle hangars?

there's only one sleeve per bag yet there's two sets of poly bushings, so order accordingly. you will see a lot of product pictures with two sleeves, nope. only one. bought from headstrong and they went through their inventory and all the bags only had one. luckily, local shop (jeep place) had some. Really didn't like having to get a ride for parts when I thought I had everything on hand. use a good moly grease!
