What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Yeah I’m afraid to get new rims for that same reason. I used to speak so highly of them. Now it’s all about turn around. But seriously 4 visits in one month is unacceptable.

I knocked out a long overdue headlight replacement today. Much better! I really dig how the black grill surround flows into the black bezel of the headlights. ✊ (Fog lights to be addressed next).

 

I had issues with newer phones (Apple and Google Pixel, Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel 3) with the stock 2013 JBL Head Unit.

Inconsistent Bluetooth and WOULD NOT WORK with a USB cable. The head unit said the phone would draw too much power.

Ended up replacing the JBL headunit with a Single DIN Kenwood.

 

Where'd you get the sub box? And is that a 10TW3?

 

Not an XR, but an iPhone 8. My 5c never had a problem. When I got the 8, the head unit started repeatedly rebooting as on truck start up. It would break connection with the phone in the middle of calls and was just acting buggy as hell.

Many trips to the dealership to install software updates to the head unit were unsuccessful.

Then, first week of December, I had to replace the truck’s original battery (2015) and the head unit wouldn’t go past the start up screen with the “sombrero” T logo and the warning to check surroundings when using the back up camera. Oh, and the USB port no longer worked.

Long story longer, the dealership replaced the head unit. I can now make voice calls through it, but when I get a text message, it makes the head unit reboot and it disconnects and reconnects to the phone.

I’m grateful to my dealership, who did everything they could to fix the issue without charge; the bottom line is Toyota is selling vehicles with an inferior head unit.

Like the nice lady at the dealership said, “Toyota does a lot of things right, but this is not one of them.”

Google “Toyota Entune IPhone issues” and you’ll find lots of fellow sufferers.

 

Wrong! I built my amazing performing retros with TRS Acme SUPER H1 kit for about $150 and the performance is staggeringly good.

 

Took it to the SF Bay, bolted more junk on, decided the West was going to be cold and wet, drove to Baja Sur, wheeled and slept on warm quiet beaches, met fantastic people, met Coco, drove home through some winter storms, couldn't resist the draw of fresh snow, helped a guy out that lost a wheel on his 9 day old car after dodging said wheel bouncing at me, got home, passed out.

 

This was the cheapest I could find it and their customer support is really great.
