Actually I had to send it to the dealership, and they forwarded it to Toyota for approval. I just sent it addressed to the service manager.

Well I’ll give it a shot. I’ll take the dead battery with me to the closest Toyota dealer on Friday.

I was up skiing this weekend and it was COLD. Mine cranked very slowly. I also noticed my battery always looks wet on top and when I asked the service guys they said it was normal. Sure looks like excessive off-gassing to me. Either way, in the market for a new battery.

My 2010 FJ battery was going strong when I sold it. But I loved in Durango co,Prado so it basically loved in a freezer /fridge. My taco spends time in west Texas..if I get 3 years I will think it is doing good. That summer heat eats batteries.

Experience with dealer was super easy. They didn't even ask for the old battery. Sought out the service manager. He copied the receipt and took my info down. Check will be cut and mailed on Monday. For others who may run into the same scenario, the service manager said you can also call the Toyota Customer Care Center. They will open a claim and have you email a copy of the receipt and they will mail a check as well.

Congrats on your refund. The dealers know the OEM battery is junk. With 582 CCA barely suitable for a 3.5L motor. My dealer told me they have replaced hundreds of them. Only problem is their solution puts another junk battery under your hood. Better to go the emergency warranty route and buy a good battery.

    Treat it right.
Some leftover insulation from home HVAC duct work.
A jacket for your battery could help a bit under extreme temps.
