I always go up the East/desert side if I can. Take the White Mountain 4x4 trail from the desert side up to Fawnskin and beat all the city traffic lol

Yea sounds good, I'd love to see some pictures and video before I head up.

Where does the White Mountain Trail start? would it be accessible right now? I'm trying to figure out what trail(s) to do on Monday.

Here's the Coxey rd trail that'll take you from Apple Valley to Big Bear , I live a few miles from the trail head

Yeah that's the trail we did a few weeks back with Ryan aka Shmellmopwho...if you look up White Mountain on the website 'Trails Offroad' (have to sign up but it's free) it'll give you coordinates to the trail head and maps that are easy to follow.

It's open and is considered a moderate 4x4 trail, but with the snow it can be a lot more difficult...White Mountain has bypasses for most of the hard stuff though but even in the snow those bypasses can be tricky. We had a tough time on a few spots but we all made it through a few weeks back when it was pretty well covered in snow toward the top. Not sure what snow conditions are like up there now though. I wouldn't do it alone if there's snow.

White Mountain ends about 8 miles or so from Fawnskin/Big Bear Lake, but you just follow the fire roads back into town (3N14 or 3N16, I forget which). As long as you're headed in the direction of the lake you'll get there. The maps on Trails Offroad are really helpful with all that though.

If you head up to Big Bear from the High Desert using 3N14 ,3N16 and 3N17 .Snow level right now is down under 5k ft elev and the temps are extremely cold here right now

As I mentioned I live in Hesperia near the Mariana Rancho foothills and right now its 38° and last night it got down to 28° but with the winds up here windchill was 18°

So they're still getting snow up there? I was wondering about that since we haven't had any rain or storms in awhile. Was hoping there was still some good snow to wheel in, might head up on Sunday or on New Years Day (Tues)

I can see the snow and it's as mentioned under 5k ft , even the Marianas Rancho foothills got a dusting and they're at 3500ft

Last night in Hesperia about 1645hrs there was a couple snow flurries

Good to know thanks! Snow at under 5k means it's gotta be pretty well covered up at around 7 - 8k

Current temp in Fawnskin is 20° with a NE 24mph breeze and windchill factored in its 6° right now

Even here in Hesperia its 38° and with NNE 19mph winds it 28° with windchill !!

Hmm, if you guys had some trouble with it, I think I'll skip it, unless someone a lot more experienced and with the proper equipment joins us. it looks like Trails Off Road is down right now, unfortunately...

Man, I wish I could join on sunday. I was thinking about going skiing at Snow Summit Tuesday. If that plan falls through, and you're going up on tuesday, maybe I'll join if you don't mind.

Snow-Wheeling sounds so much fun. I really want to do that.

I'm in twin peaks now and that wind chill is ridiculous. I considered to take my sons there but going alone and unfamiliar with anything there I didn't want to risk it.

Yep the windchill is really cold here , I'm in Hesperia up against the Marianas Rancho foothills and with windchill factored in its 28° right now . I can only imagine how cold it is at 6800ft
