I've been hearing a metal popping sound when I drive up my drive way or when I reverse and turn. Can't really find the source but looking under the truck today, I observed these differences in the ball-joints. Is this normal for them to be different?

Driver side (notice the space above the LCA):

    Passenger side (no space):

looks like the ball joint has come out,or is there a ring or spacer under the joint itself

It looks like both sides are the same. The fist picture you are just seeing the open space between the ends of the snap ring and in the second picture we are looking at the back of the snap ring

Hmmm...I see. Could the snap ring be worn down on the driver side so there is more play than normal? Thanks for the feedback.

I sprayed some teflon lubricant on them. I'm trying to isolate annoying sound from around my suspension area.

On an 06, highly unlikely. Those snap rings won't wear much if at all

If its an issue when turning I would take a look at your steering joints

Mine pops when I back up and go forward, only after I installed the three inch lift spacer on front. I asumed it was the spring shifting back and forward when I was moving trying to settle. jmo

FWIW, I had a horrible popping sound when turning..Sounded like metal on metal. Turned out to be a rock stuck in the coil spring, near the spring perch.

I had the same problem. I brought it in for warranty service, and they said nothing was wrong. I left and it was doing it again. I was angry and raised hell. They took it in again and removed a rock between the body and the frame. I felt like a dumbass.

^ Interesting comments on finding rocks. I'll check. I have bilstein 5100 shocks set at 1.75" with OEM springs. Sound is coming from the driver side.
