Just pour cold water on them. Same as frozen doors. Always carried a 1 gal jug of water in the rollback to open ice bound doors.

I usually start the truck kick the defrost on while it’s warmin up I scrape the other windows by the time I get to the windshield it’s good to go. My wife’s car is a Subbie it has electric defrosters in the windshield for the the wipers.

I was thinking those things also. When I was in Korea and Germany it wasn't an issue but I'd never seen freezing rain in either of those...and not that's an issue here. Not by a long shot. I was just wondering.

Same here. Hell 41° is shorts and T-shirt weather?!

That is what the remote start is for, when you turn off the vehicle crank it to defrost and fan on high.

Did the same back East but out here most of the winter it is too cold for that. By the time you walk from the garage to the truck with a bucket of hot water it is a frozen slug in the teens and twenties below zero. I know, tried it. Once LOL.

    Meanwhile in Minnesota...

When the wife had to replace the windshield on the Forester it was $800 because of the wiper warmers.

    Tacoma was $100

Yeah don't have to do that much here but have. So the reason for putting the wipers blades in the up position is so if your a dumb ass and keep the wipers on the motor will burn up when the blades are frozen to the windshield. Isn't so much an issue with the wiper blades as the motor.

Been looking at the Colorado because of the diesel and pulling power. Ranger is almost a ton and the trailer 400 lbs. but no matter how I balance it on the tongue when I hit the hills the transmission hunts. So pop out of overdrive and gas mileage is ridiculous for even a short trip. Let alone half way across the country. There is a reason they keep diesels running here in the winter no matter what the engine.

    Diesel Protection.jpg

Really leaning toward a 4Runner, I do want my creature comforts as I get older. And while most don't like to admit it that own a truck a SUV handles a lot better in the snow and even in most off road situations. Would love a toy hauler for the Ranger and living quarters but that would put me into a beast of a rig, and a truck. And when you hit the Sunset Country of Ontario or even the Arrowhead of Mn. that can be a show stopper.

My father was a truck driver his whole life. When he retired he said that he wanted a vehicle that was quiet and had good road manners. Having owned pickups most of my life I know exactly what he was saying now. Decisions....

Good morning everyone, moving slow as usual. Gotta makes me some coffee. Weather turned back to winter, not much snow, but temps in 30’s.

The old hot water turns to ice crystals trick, I enjoy that bit of physics. The reason it doesn’t work out east as well has a good bit to do with relative humidity.
