2wd prerunner vs 4wd

im new to TW

i am about to buy myself a tacoma tryin to decide on 2wd prerunner or 4wd its gunna be 5 speed manual and access cab

im probably goin with the 2.7l 4 cyl engine cause its thousands cheaper than the v6.

any opinions?

i also have some questions about the 4cyl.

what are some pluses to the 4cyl.?

what are some performance parts to make the 4cyl more powerful?

what are some numbers you are running with the 4cyl. 0-60, 1/4 mile etc.... not that im really lookin to race this thing...

Well it depends on what you're going to use it for really

 

How do you intend on using the truck?

-Pluses to the 4cyl?.... gas mileage.

-There are cat-back exhausts, headers, intakes, and even a supercharger available.

 

yea im planing on takin campin trips and some muddin

but also alot of DD going to work and school mostly city

 

then get the 4wd

 

I regret not getting a 4by, you know what they say "Its better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

 

I would buy the 4WD. If you buy a prerunner all you get is a jacked up 2WD. If your going to spend $22k to $30k anyway then you might as well get the 4WD.

 

4x4 all the way. Mine gets 21/22 mpg on the highway with the 2.7 4 5speed and if you want to go hunting camping or you get into snow you will want the 4x4 .

 

The only big power gain on the 4 is a supercharger so if you are thinking you need more power than get a 6.
The headers, muffler, etc give very little boost in juice.
Mudding? 4x4 for sure but why someone would do mudding in a nice expensive truck is beyond me.

 

Have you considered a used Tacoma? You said you were going to go with 4cyl cause it's 'thousands cheaper'. You could get an older 6cyl with 4x4 easily for the price of a new 4 cyl 4x4.
