I just bought a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 engine single cab, automatic. It has NO bells and whistles. It does not have a tachometer. When I turn on the ignition , There is no check engine light on the dash anywhere. Where is is supposed to be? The engine idles a little rough and I am wondering if the previous owner (or someone) has removed the bulb. I should have looked at the lights a little closer before I bought it, but that is water over the bridge. Any Ideas out there?

Yeah the check engine light should come on with the key turned to show that it works...either the bulb is burnt out or the previous owner removed it to hide a check engine light issue.

Do you have a code scanner? You can scan for codes even if the check engine light isn't there

It didn’t have a CEL light? If you bought it from a dealer or a 3rd party someone may have removed it purposely to hide an issue.

Not that difficult to get the bulb. Remove the lower dahs valence, the control stack trim, and the screws in the cluster valence.
