I just don't understand the 3rd gen hate I'm seeing from some people here. I traded my '04 doublecab TRD prerunner on a '18 SR doublecab 4x4.. The '04 was great, but every single thing about the 3rd gen is better..

    - I went from 16mpg in town to 21. 25 on freeway! both trucks V6.
    - More room in the 3rd gen, I actually like the seating position everyone seems to hate on.
    - almost 100 more horsepower
    - I thought I would miss the diff locker in the '04.. Nope. Waay more traction with 4x4
    - Better ride quality
    - Transmision shifting issues? I just don't get it. The 6 speed auto seems to be in the right gear for me most of the time. I do wish the S mode was more of a manual mode than a gear limiter, though.

Neither do I. I test drove a '19 the other day. An absolute no frills base model and I liked it. Liked it enough that I'm probably going to buy one. It's a good thing I have to replace the wife's car first or my impulsiveness would of got the best of me and I would of likely bought the darn thing right then and there.

If one still owns a 1st gen at this stage of the game it's either a secondary fun hobby vehicle or they're living in their mom's basement playing fortnite with dorito cheese stained fingers.

3 years later and third gen owners still make threads like this.

Most of them aren't even 3rd gen owners and just come here to poop all over the place. Or they have unrealistic expectations of a midsize truck. Or they test drove a V8 taco with perfectly shifting transmission and got dealt a 3.5 with frequent shifting? I'm not sure what the reasoning is but most of it boils down to them not doing enough research before the purchase.

    Still stock completely capable!

100% agree!! Also 100% agree with OP! I read so many posts and wonder if I just received that fluke Killer Amazing Tacoma. But then realize a lot of the things people are upset with are more of a “picked the wrong vehicle” problem then the actual truck itself!
Glad to hear your happy and if it’s anything like my experience only gets better as it goes!

Shit people say, but likely isn't true, plenty of broke people drive shit that is paid for.

1st gen owners can't take a sarcastic roast at all. They're just as equally butt hurt as 3rd gen owners

Lol, what? 1gen tacos are amazing and run forever. Zero need to hate on 1gen owners, I have a ton of respect for those trucks.

My father and grandfather both owned Toyota pickups that I drove extensively in high school. I personally have owned all 3 generations of Tacoma since.
The 3rd gen is by far the best one I've owned in every category.

Only one that complains about what I drive is me.

Unlike some guys, who, for years, complain about what someone else is complaining about, that they often don’t even own or have experience with.

I’m just unsure of why sensitivity hasn’t turned itself down after this many years that it makes a difference to someone.

If my truck was great and I loved it, I wouldn’t care what someone else says about it.

I've owned a 1st gen, but i'm not so butt hurt that I won't admit they have short comings.

    The frames rust
The front ball joint design is shit
    The seats are junk
    The dash rattles
    The front brakes are weak
The rear axle bearing / seal design is shit which still carries over into the 3rd gen

I'm your target audience here. I own a 2019 Tacoma. Its underpowered, it has stupid rear drum brakes, it has no car play, no height adjustable seats and the driving position is wonky.

None of these things are my fault. I had no idea that any of these shortcomings were there. On top of it, I'm in debt and couldn't really afford the truck and I was in debt on my trade in so I owe more that it's worth.

I'm trapped to this thing and its not my fault. I will therefore blame the truck and post repeatedly, bitching non-stop about these things and dreaming of the greener grass on the other side of the fence.

I'm a whiny little repetitive bitch and none of it is my fault. It's Toyota's fault. While I try to get out from being underwater on my loan I will drop in here every day and remind everybody what a total whiny piece of shit I am and hope that I will attract other whiny assholes to my cause.

    Waaah.

I’m not sure if it’s so much the trucks that people get turned off by as much as the people/personalities that drive them (thinking they have the best thing since sliced bread and making sure everyone knows about it). Just an observation.

(And no, my opinion is not secretly buried in this post haha)
