Had transmission TSB done, still got issues??

I have a 09 DC and had the transmission tsb done. It is still having trouble deciding what gear to be in when I am coasting down a steep hill or even coasting on a long straight away.....?? Pissing me off. I took it back in and they say I have the latest program in there?? They gave me no issues when I took it in for the tsb...

Anyone else experience this?

It is better a stop and goes but not perfect.......

I don't know if I should just live with it??

Also it almost seems to do it more when the air conditioner is on. Is that possible??

I had the TSB done, and it really helped with the gear selections when going around corners.
I think with these highly computerized transmissions, the days of just coasting are over.
I have found if you give it a slight amount of gas you will coast some what.
I believe if you take your foot totally off the gas, the computer is preparing to slow down or stop.
As far as the A/C, you probably just notice it more with the increased drag on the engine when running.
I would have to say you are not having any problems

But i know what you mean, i get in the wifes minivan and coast.

 

I notice similar behavior post-TSB on mine as well but for me it's very predictable. I can coast a decent way downhill while applying no throttle... I lose a considerable amount of speed due to the fuel injectors shutting off but it's still coasting. Once my speed gets low enough while coasting (~32-35 mph) it will down shift, even if the injectors are still off.

I've noticed that if I am coasting downhill and I apply the brakes, even lightly, it will down shift even though the injectors are off. I guess it's trying to help me slow down since I applied the brakes. Shift points are usually at higher RPMs/speeds with the A/C on due to increased engine load but that's also predictable.

Also, to be sure, there's a noticeable shudder when the injectors turn on/off, kind of feels like a tranny shift... if this part of what you're experiencing as well?

 

Yea i just had mine done and sometimes around corners itll lag, but not all the time.

 

Pretty much, my rpm's jump and it down shifts coasting on straight aways and down hill at fast speeds.... surprises me which is what is so frustrating....

I can't say I notice when the injectors turn and a shudder though.....I will pay more attention tomorrow...

 

For mine there is definitely a noticeable slowing (which feels like a down shift) when the injectors turn off. If I watch my RPMs they never change... until I slow down enough for it to drop into 4th gear around 32-35 mph.

Orion- Do you think it has been an improvement overall to have the flash?

I am planning to get it done next week.

Also, do you think the shifting got better after you drove it for a while- I notice you had yours done about a month ago.

I am wondering if the flash clears the adaptive transmission's memory of your driving habits and needed to relearn them?

It is much better with the flash. You have to get it done. The only issues is when I am costing downhill or at hi speed....

It has not learned...lol

 

Yup, same here. Around the corners is much better now but coasting slightly downhill, around 10mph, the transmission just plays dumb unless you wait and press very lightly on the gas. If you need to speed up quickly to avoid something, good luck. Stupid engineer should test drive the car before going back to his desk and design the software.

 

I think its the DAC or downhill assist.

First, I have to convince my dealer that there is a tranny tsb- even after I showed him a printed copy, he insisted that my transmission is 1qt. low on fluid! After I made it clear that I didn't appreciate being treated like an idiot he suddenly remembered what I was talking about.

Not sure if I want these guys touching my truck- I will try another dealer.

 

Just took my truck in yesterday for the TSB, because I was experiencing a lag in down shifting just like you guys are talking about. I figured this would fall under the TSB. My truck is only 4 months old. I was talking to the service writer there and he seemed very knowledgeable about tacomas. (not just bull shitting everything he said was making sense). He said he knew exactly what i was experiencing and about the TSB He informed me that the TSB would not take care of the lag in down shifting. He explained our trucks are equipped with Engine Assisted braking while coasting and that is what I was experiencing. He was more than happy to perform the TSB as I requested and just like he said it wouldn't do anything for the problem i was talking about. He was super helpful and they found that the transmission was 1/2qt low from the factory.
He also sounded like they under fill the transmissions at the factory so I recommend anyone who hasn't had theirs in for service go do it. I know a 1/2qt wont cause a problem but i hate it when my fluids aren't topped off...

 

I'm calling BS on the service guy. My '09 had the "lag" and they first told me it was engine braking, then it was low fluid, but it still persisted. I kept insisting it had to be some sort of mapping issue, but they went ahead and REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION at 8,000 miles, and guess what? No better. Finally, the TSB came out, and with a simple reflash, the truck is completely different- not perfect, but worlds better than before. By all means, you need to start with the TSB, and if that does not work, look to something else.

 

+1 . There were 2 problems before the tsb, lagging trans and excessive engine braking while coasting to a stop. The tsb took care 90% of the trans' lag and all of the engine braking.

Yeah I had mine done last week, and it is an AMAZING DIFFERENCE!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING IT DONE. I went to the dealership witht the TSB printed and explained the problem, and he immediately was like "oh yeah, all you need is the pedal replacement done. The transmission reflash is part of the pedal fix, so it will take care of both issues for you". I CANT BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE. My truck finally drives the way it should of since day 1, when I bought it in Aug of 2009
