Mine had two 10 amp fuses as shown in picture. Does anyone know if we can switch one of them out for a 15 amp fuse? If so, does it matter which fuse? I’d like to use in place of the INJ fuse which is 15 amp. So I’d have one 10 amp for the led lights and one 15 amp for INJ. The lights would then be tied to the ignition and come on when truck is started up. 12B5091F-D1AA-4B6C-8A5F-B325C8BDEF06.jpg

Awesome. So with the 2 10amp fuse there shouldn’t be issue? Do you know why people would put a 15amp in? Kinda just curious. How did you ground? Thanks man

I’d like to have the lights come on when the truck ignition is on. I’m told the associated fuse in labeled INJ. There is presently a 15 amp fuse in that position. I think I’d need to have a 15 amp fuse as part of the add-a-fuse pair so there’d be a 10 amp and a 15 amp. I don’t have a lot of electrical knowledge so I’m not sure if I could just switch 15 for 10 amp in the add-a-fuse. But the goal is to have the lights turn on whenever the ignition is on. There is an option to wire it inside the cab, but I’m hoping for a simple solution in the fuse box.

You can put two 15A fuses in the Add-a-Fuse.

10A for the low beam, 15A for the grille lights.

Edit: @2017OR -- with that particular Add-a-Fuse from the other vendor, I'm not sure if you can put two 15A fuses actually. I only have experience with the kit from Runnin4Tacos.

I found these on Amazon. Will likely be giving them a shot soon, and can report back as to quality. It appears that previous buyers have been pleased, though there is currently a low sample size. Their look and function appear to be similar to those shown by the OP. It does not look like they have in-line fuses, but of course an in line fuse can (and should) be added, or in my case I have added an auxiliary fuse box to wire all my accessories that will meet that need. Hope this helps someone!

You will need to replace the 15A fuse that was originally in that place, so as to restore that circuit after the fuse has been added. What an add a fuse essentially does is allow you to create two circuits where there was previously one. It works somewhat analogously to how the two 120v plugs in an outlet function in your home.

    Add_A_Fuse_Components.jpg

Sorry for the crude labeling, but for your purposes these should be the two components you need to know about:

    A) Restores the pre-existing circuit. Placing a fuse in this slot closes the factory circuit that you are tapping. It is necessary to place either the same fuse in this slot, or if you can't (and under the dash you cant because the factory fuses are too low profile to fit into an add a fuse), or a fuse of the same current rating. So, if the fuse you are pulling is 15A, you should replace it with a 15A fuse. This ensures that the factory circuit is largely unaffected. Just like before, 15A of current are allowed to run through the factory circuit before the fuse is blown and the circuit is opened.

    B) The "hot" or "powered" end of the new circuit. This is where you put the fuse for the grille lights. My general rule of thumb is to look at the current draw of the item that you are adding and try to round up with the closest fuse I have. So, for example I installed a dash cam that ran at 2.4A, so I placed a 3A fuse in this slot. This allows the device to pull the current it needs, while protecting it from pulling too much in the event of a short. So, if you're lights call for 10A or a little less, this is where you'd throw that 10A fuse. Then you would connect the power of your lights to the blue end by crimping, or soldering, or whatever you prefer.

As some general rules, it should not matter which direction you put the fuses into the add-a-fuse, nor should it matter which direction you put the add-a-fuse into the fuse slot.

As far as finding an ignition activated fuse (so the lights are only on when the car is) you can use a cheap voltmeter to do that, testing to see if 12v is observed across the fuse terminals when the car is off and when the car is on.

Whether you wire the lights under the dash or under the hood, these principles should be the same. I hope this helps!

Thank you for the info. The amp i tap into was a 10amp but I should have a 15amp for the raptor light correct?

No problem, you're welcome. I honestly cannot tell without looking at the specifications for your lights. Did they come with a manual? You are welcome to post a picture of that, or perhaps a link to where you bought them and I can try to find out.

From looking at your picture, I'm assuming that you tapped the fuse for your headlights. And from the looks of it, with one being bright and the other being dimmed, it looks to me like they are starved for power. Is it possible that you reversed the placement of the fuses in the add-a-fuse, effectively giving your headlights the smaller fuse and your grille lights the larger fuse? I'd have a hard time imagining that the headlights would take less current than those grill lights...

EDIT: I just read around the forums a bit and saw that savethewheels left some good information to that end. He says that, actually, the grille lights call for 15A, where the headlights call for 10A. This may depend on where your tapping, though. He's a better resource to ask than me on that.

I got the same kit as from runnin4tacos. From his YouTube video seems like it was a 15amp and a 10amp add a fuse. I added 2 10amp. I think thats what I did wrong. Gonna stop by pepboys again to get a 15amp and see if thats the issue. Will take more pics once everything is finished. Thanks again bro

Definitely, I bet that is exactly what you have going on. No problem, man. Any Micro ATC 15A fuse should work. Good luck!

This is fantastic and helps simplify for us novices. I’ll try to get the lights tapped into my ignition circuit following these instructions. Thx for taking the time to respond. Appreciate it.

It’s the one marked outlet1, it’s a 15amp 3rd one in. I have the meso extended fuse cover so the add a fuse fit perfect, with the stock cover it probably won’t fit.
