I've worked my "Toy" fund up over many many years. Selling something I've built funds the next project and keeps the squirrel in me happy :)

HG, are you still doing DS rides? I first caught up with you back in the XRR days. I've kept track of your builds over the years, extremely nice work. It's pretty cool that your dad is into this with you.

Thanks, We enjoy working on these builds. Not doing as much dual sport as I would like but I hope to guide another NV dual sport ride in the future.

Snagged a 3D pen for Christmas, yesterday decided to try it out by making a PLA plastic Drifter for my Matchbox Taco :). Kinda crude since it was all free hand and no effort was made to smooth the surfaces out but this pen is pretty cool!

Nice day today, took a break from working on the shop and went for a cruise on the Lambretta :). Hopefully the existing shop will be ready soon and work on the Drifter can start :)

Not a lot of progress on the truck lately since I've been concentrating on getting the shop set up after the move. We did manage to install the new suspension on my 1st gen this weekend. The original suspension was completely shot...it had the limpest springs this side of a screen door! I ordered up an Old Man Emu setup with Dakar springs....these should do the trick.

Installing the new suspenders... Ignore the pickle fork, it wasn't used (I hate these things).

Assembling the new springs and struts. This is the best spring compressor I've ever used, takes the danger out of playing with springs :)

Good time to clean and re-grease the manual hubs.

Rear Dakar springs & shocks installed, extended brake lines installed and brakes bleed with fresh syn fluids. Truck drives & handles soooo much nicer with the new suspenders. Now to get it aligned.

Hope to get some work done on the camper soon.

Where did you get the spring compressor? I need to adjust mine and I hate the typical compressors everybody uses.

Thanks for taking the time to post all the detailed pictures. I followed your last build and your work is outstanding! Can't wait to see how you build out the Drifter. I'm on the East Coast so all I've really seen are internet pics. Your review on the different pop up campers (after actually seeing them in person) & your pictures were the deciding factor for me to be able to pull the trigger and order my own Drifter!

Just bought a 2019 TRD OR Access cab last December with the thought of making it an adventure mobile for hiking, fishing, biking, exploring base camp & trying to get up to speed on Taco's. I'm coming from 23 years of owing an modding a NAS Land Rover D90 that was built for serious off roading /rock crawling.

    Thanks!

    Hodakaguy,
Did you consider getting the Fantastic Fan option and if so could you give your reasoning to decide not to get it? I have it on my order but now, I'm second guessing it. Thinking about overall height (fan adds 2") and potential interference with mounting things on the roof.

No interference, you just get higher towers, or organize your kit so the area over the window is free.

aaen thanks for the reply. I did include the fan with my order. Given up on the thought of getting back into the garage with the Drifter :)

No problem. also if you live in a cold climate, parking these trucks or any vehicle in a heated garage is not a good idea, especially if your state/provinces uses road slat, brines, etc.

Agree. Yep I'm in MA and there is lots of salt used on the roads. I ordered the power coating to help protect for this reason. We have a garage bay in a barn that is heated, but I only put the heat on to work out there it's normally left off.

Wish the powder coating was available when I purchased my drifter, its just tarnished now a bit of elbow grease and she will shine right up. Actually may polish it to a mirror shine this summer for shits and giggles.
