It appears he was/is trying to make them as an overlay on top of the emblem, but the emblem is rounded in the middle so the “overlay” highpoints in the center and wont lay flat.
After removing the sombrero it still wont really lay flat because it is a tad too wide/geometries a bit off. I could probably add a medium under it to level and get flush, but I am digging the matte black emblem.

I’m part of that minority as well... I’m not understanding the crome hate thing, trying to learn that fad reasoning (maybe I’m just too old to “get it”).

All personal preference I suppose. Ive just never been a fan of chrome on trucks. My wife has a newer Pilot Touring with some chrome accents and I think that looks sharp.
    Something about trucks though...

Yeah, I understand and appreciate preference independence... seems a lot of folks spend so much time and money to de- (insert badge, decal, chrome, etc.), and “plain Jane” their trucks (not criticizing, just trying to learn the background reasoning). I’m surprise the hardcore haven’t banged out the imprinted T A C O M A on the tailgate yet (or did I miss that video).

I color keyed my dash trim, (quicksand) but never got around to doing anything else. I hated that gray-silver trim around everything. Never understood why they didn't color key it. Looks so good color keyed on the inferno trucks.

    Update on install:
    All parts are back in.
    91CAA753-4384-4333-97EF-D75E889546CA.jpg

Didnt want to do any clear initially, but under advisement of better UV and wiping protection, I added a couple coats before turning in. Let it dry for about 12 hours. It was able to be handled but not completely cured. No issues except for the steering wheel logo.

I used a super glue gel applying directly to the holes in the steering wheel. I lined up the remaining length of peg on the logo and pressed them in. In hind sight, I would probably trim the posts off completely and apply flat surface to flat surface. As I put pressure on with my gloved palm, it made some indentations/patterns. I removed it and went with my backup plan of the purchased oval insert. Actually pretty happy with the insert.
    05F21BCA-AC7F-42D9-BFC7-EF1105BA2BB9.jpg
I installed the oval with hot glue. I needed to use this as I needed a bonding material that would build up on itself as I applied it. I wanted to glue the insert on only with glue in the middle so I didnt risk squeezing any material out of the sides.

The rings went back easy enough. Worth noting, there are actually two different types of a/c rings. Two are flat, and the other two have a slight angle to the surface. I forget which go with which, sorry.
I didnt need any glue with these interesting enough. Just snapped in. And because these arent a moving part, Im ok with that.
    B0B4829E-448F-4D44-AFFC-A2D296171DCA.jpg

Similarly, the start button ring only goes on one way. Just match up the holes.

For the shifter ring, just push the ring in from the top (after identifying top, left, and right) with correct orientation. Pull the boot down to the groove, add another zip tie (with clasp pointing to front of vehicle). Snip excess, push boot back up.
Now you have to place the e brake boot back in place. You can see the grooves, just snap it back in. Now snap the whole assembly back to the car by lining up and pressing down around. You have to open the center console to do this.
Spin on the shift knob until tight then raise the boot ring up until it snaps to the bottom of the shift knob.

Hmmmmmm.........I guess I'll go be poor somewhere else. I'm to busy working to be able to afford two new vehicles this year (2019) to have time for this sort of thing! To each his own though.

I dig it, looks much better then an overlay. Any thoughts on how to hit the chrome on the 4wd nob? I pulled that piece when I painted the trim MGM but I remember it being the biggest pain of all the trim, I'm hoping theres a way to get at it without removing that section again.

That will be the next thing. Gonna tinker with it in the morning. With the kids at the trampoline park while I brainstorm. I am guessing it will require pulling the panel. Was hoping it would just pull off like the radio knobs but alas I think not. I gave it a small tug but dont wanna break it. Replacement is like $167 for OEM.
