Anyone have these latches? I'm having a hard time mounting them to my drawers. I think that i have to return them and get some different ones. The latch on these isnt far back enough so theyre pretty much useless to me I think. Anyone know some good slam latches that are lockable similar to these?

Have you notched the backside of the drawer to allow for the latch?

I don't know of any latches that are thick enough to go through a 3/4" piece of wood.

Post a picture, perhaps we can offer more help.

I have latched like that. They work great. What do you mean it isn’t far enough back? The latch doesn’t stick up high enough? Or is the wood drawer too thick to mount this to? I used a 3/4” wood front piece on my drawer and mine fit great. I got them from graingers website. They were on sale when I got them. I’ll find a link to the ones I got.

Edit: here’s the link. Looks like they are discontinued. Probably why they were on sale. They have alternate peodicts though. https://m.grainger.com/mobile/produ...359085114ebdf1137828d48b913bd982e1224e6ab3723

I am building my drawer too. I am going with a half-the-bed style. Other half of bed will have a small shelf, water tank, fridge, and solar batteries.

I will need a latching drawer pull too.

Yeah the wood is too thick. The front of my drawers are made with 1x12s. The latch looks like it would only allow something super thin to work. Ill post up some photos so you can better understand. Do you have any photos of how you cut it out and mounted it?

    Possible solution.....
Cut out the wood however size is needed. Then take a small piece of flat stock metal and screw it to the outside of the wood. Metal can be way thinner then wood.

So I want the drawer fronts to be flush similar to what I have right now. But for that to happen I need the latch part to go back way further.

If you’re good with a router then countersink the drawer face so the face of the latch is recessed.

    Or get the correct handles.

Nice! Those look like they’ll work for you. Post pics when you get it set up. Interested to see how those look and function.

Didn’t see this post when I replied earlier. Here are some pics of mine. I need to swap out the screws but I couldn’t find the ones I bought for these handles. These are ones I had lying around. They do stick ya if you aren’t careful!

That 31.5 mm dimension is 1.240157 inches. You said you are using 1x12.

Here’s my setup, shown with no sleeping pad in it at the moment. The tray slide out holds an RTIC 65 (the panel above pops right off in that case) and I sleep on the right side above the drawer.

A bit late but another option for the interior of your shell is flocking, it was a lot more commonly used in campers and glove box interiors a few years back but it's still available and used for things like race car dashes to reduce glare. Westfalia used it in the tops of the VW campers for years to help with condensation. You roll or spray the adhesive on then sift or blow the dry flocking stuff on; let it dry then brush off the excess. There's no real insulation value to it but it will help with condensation.

One my last Tacoma the shell did not have carpet and yes, I did scrape my head a few times. I think it was a Century brand, Leer's lower end IIRC, and it was laid up with a chopper gun (sprayed fiberglass strands) and it was on the rough side. I ended up gluing a piece of that gray carpet from Lowes onto the ceiling and it helped immensely, both with condensation and in keeping me from looking like I'd dragged a piece of 30grit over my head if I bumped it.

There are some manufacturer's videos on youtube showing them installing carpet when making the shells but they do it before anything it added to the shell like windows, lights, etc. Only wires are run under it. There was a guy on here or ExPo who had some photos of himself doing it to a shell he was modifying and it looked like a PITA but certainly doable.

Hey guys, since this thread has a lot more steam, I'll ask my question here. I was wondering what a good finish would be to use on the platforms of my build. I want something that won't be harmful to breath if I'm sleeping in the shell, but also something that will be waterproof since the shell does leak a little bit. I went a bit more in detail in my thread here (if anyone cares) otherwise, any suggestions for finishes/urethane are welcome!
