    Any machinists in here? Looking to buy a port contour bit, but there are so many varieties that I’m not sure which one I need.

    Drilling and tapping -8an o-ring into some fuel rail extrusions. The port thread size is 3/4-16 which gets me in the ball park, but I’m not sure about the o-ring seal angle. I’ve seen all sorts of different angles from like 12* to 60*. My gut tells me I need a lower number, but I’m not sure.

    These bits are like $200+ so I don’t want to end up with $1k work of bits before I find the one I need.

    He runs both the vent and pcv valve into a catch can with a breather.

    Yes, basically.

    I’m taking this and tapping it to 3/4-16

    Then I need to mill an o-ring channel in each end, so I can screw in these -8an o-ring fittings. I need the flat (nut area) part to bottom out so it can be tightened and the o-ring to seat so it seals.

    I think I need this one but not sure. Of course I’d need machine to hold a 3/4 shank and spin it fast enough. I don’t have the correct machine but maybe a fast drill would work.

    Only if there is a vacuum leak. Which neither of us have. Just cap the ports on the manifold and intake if you want the vent to atmosphere setup.

    The only issue with the vent to atmosphere part is that you lose the benefits of the vacuum suctioning the crank case fumes. There are strong benefits to using vacuum to evacuate the crankcase, one of them is more horsepowers. The pistons traveling down, don’t have to combat crankcase pressures, thus less parasitic drag. Racing engines use vacuum pumps specifically for this feature.

    It is routed to the intake tube but before the tb so it's essentially vented to atmosphere.
    The drivers side valve cover is connected to vacuum since it connects between the tb and sc.

    what moves the air past the maf and into the the throttle body? If you placed your hand over the throttle body, would you feel suction?

    I think the passenger side vent can actually allow filtered air to flow both directions. Under high crank case pressures, the air would be forced into the intake tract. Under high vacuum scenarios down stream of the throttle body, the air may actually be able to flow into the engine through that port as there is no check valve there.

    Sure there is airflow between the air filter and tb but ideally no low pressure (vacuum). There will be vacuum between the tb and sc when less than wot due to the tb butterfly being the inlet restriction.

    That makes sense as far as air flowing both directions on the passenger valve cover but I'm not following you about the "high vacuum scenarios down stream of the throttle body, the air may actually be able to flow into the engine through that port as there is no check valve there".
    Downstream of the tb (between TV and sc) is where the drivers side valve cover with the PCV valve connects to the intake so there is a check valve there unless I am misinterpreting what you are saying.

    This is why we have dual -8AN outlets. Much larger than the openings of the nipple and PCV port sizes. On smaller engines, I.E. 4 cyl., they typically use -10AN.

    Let me be more accurate. Mine are 3/8" NPT to -8AN, while @Lucario Runner has 3/8" NPT to -10AN. Nearly the same diameter as the metric PCV threads. Thus an easy tap, to get the right thread mesh.

    In normal configuration, everything is sucked, or super sucked through the PCV orifice. From a tiny fresh air hole in the passenger valve cover. That hose may be large, but if you take a look inside the port, you'd be surprised at the size of the actual opening.

    Me particularly, due to the nature of the turbo's pressure source, pre-TB, I want no pressurization of the crank case area, other than piston ring blow by alone.

    Nor do I want the turbo sucking in oil vaporized air, gumming up the turbo and everything down the line.

    The only other choice for a suction source, would be the exhaust, by using a venturi effect to create vacuum on the crank case void.
