Only cost me a can of spray paint that I already had laying around.

You’ve inspired me. Currently waiting on the first coat to dry on the AC rings and start button. Center console ring is a possible project for tomorrow

    Noice!
The console ring comes out easily. As far as the appearance being maintained, this console panel is the only one Im at all hesitant about. Everything else is out of the way and is never really “touched”. I used a fast setting krylon spray on poly for my clear. I wish I hadnt as it gives it a bit more sheen than I was hoping for. A few coats of matte should be fine and then hit as needed in the future on that console ring should anything scratch it.

I picked up rustoleum paint+primer in one, I also found that I have a can of matte clear coat already so some of that will go on.

I would think console and start ring are going to be the two heaviest wear if there will be any, but if they’re both easy to pop off a touch up coat will be Ezpz

The matte clear I tried was old and the pressure and contents were low. I thought I had enough but couldnt get good coverage and then got some clumping on one of the a/c rings. Pissed me off pretty good as it meant stripping them bare and starting over with the matte black coats. An extra 45 minutes of work.
I went with the spray poly simply because it was what I had in the garage and I knew it was new and full (from a furniture reno this summer).
Good call on the clear matte though. I think youll have better results.

If I remember and I’m not too eager I’ll snap a few pics of them with the matte clear on for reference

The only chrome that bothers me interiorly is the damn chrome vent ring that glares in the driver side mirror.

How did you remove plastic parts on the steering wheel? I need to re-shape one of mine as it does not sit flush with the wheel and every time I touch it pisses me off.
    Thanks!

You remove the two covers on each side of the steering wheel. Back out the torx bolt on each side. Remove airbag. Remove covers.

Pardon my ignorance, I assume that the torxs are located behind the the steering wheel? I'll take a look tomorrow. Thank You!

I tend to stick with the classics and to me chrome is a classic. I kind of feel that matte black is a fad.

Might not be perfect, but miles better than the chrome

Bartact covers, Hondo knobs, OEM bed cover, Subie Tweeters, interior chrome delete, a/c hose extension/relocate, blacked lower bumper, OEM bed extender and mat, Stealth running boards, debadged
    -repainted chrome interior (round 2)
    -painted lower front bumper
    -debadged!
    -received Meso change holder!
    -ordered bed mat
-ordered vinyl wrap for scoop and wheels

So round 2 here on de-chroming the interior. Noticed a small chip on one of the a/c rings that I had previously painted matte black. The previous paint was a krylon matte black latex based. I was wanting to re-do them anyway as I was not thrilled with the glassy finish that the poly clear added and this time do it with an automotive specific enamel.
    image.jpg
I decided yesterday that I was going to also remove the lower bumper and paint that matte black.

Pulled off the bumper, rough sanded with 220, hit it with two coats of etching primer after some degreaser and a bath.
A little tricky to pull off that piece. I removed the whole grille for easier access. I broke one tab that I will epoxy back on and reinforce before reassembly.
    6E76EA53-F53E-4604-80C3-DBF8E32E8E3C.jpg
Did 4-5 light coats with progressively heavier wetter coats.

Used the same enamel for both the lower bumper as the chrome trim pieces as I was going for the flat look on both.
    AE05DA16-D89E-423C-A33A-65D30ED373DB.jpg
Everything will cure overnight (being more patient this time around) and I just finished grilling dinner for the family and poured a glass of whiskey.
    Will post reassembly pics tomorrow.
    Happy New Year TW.

Since I de-badged and de-stickered the red and black vinyl “TRD 4x4 SPORT” bedside, I took a step back to appreciate the slick look. Then I decided to give @CBoy808 a ring. Had him mock these up for me to replace the originals I just took off except without the SPORT and with some vintage flair. They will be matte black. Can’t wait!
