I had an opportunity to drive my father-in-laws brand new Colorado V6 4X4 (not ZR2), and am left with no doubt the Tacoma is by far the better truck. I realize this is common knowledge here, but with all the 3RD Gen hatred that floats around this site, it’s nice to actually remind yourself once in a while of how nice the Tacoma is, including the automatic transmission!
    :crapstorm:

Anyways......he bought the truck because his new wife is very short so the lack of adjustment in the Tacoma driver seat was a deal breaker. I did not have the heart to tell him my thoughts but I will share them here.

    Colorado pros:

    - Adjustable, comfortable seats.

    - Better forward visibility.

    - More torque off the line and immediate power.

    - In general, a quiter cabin.

    Colorado cons:

-very poor ride and handling. Truck feels like a piece of farm machinery on a rough road.

-transmission clunks and pops and generally rough shifts in an unpredictable manner. This was actually the biggest eye-opener. I feel I always have my Taco AT “under a microscope” and am judging its every action, mostly from the endless banter about it here on TW. The chev auto tranny is much worse. The only thing better is more torque off the line, but once you are going you get the same “dead pedal” effect you get from a Tacoma, except with rough shifts and weird noises and strange rev-hang on top of that.

-4hi and 4lo rob all power from the drivetrain. Truck feels like the brakes are on in 4WD. Switching this truck into 4WD takes away any “spice” it had. It’s almost as if the truck is asking “please put me back in 2WD”.

-headlights equally dim as the Tacomas.

-interior feels cheep and looks tacky.

-steering feels vauge, like driving a 10 year old truck.

    - back up camera is washed-out, even with a clean lens.

Anyways......I walked away from the experience a little more in love with my Taco.

No, but my guitar gently wept as I thought about how Toyota lost a sale over not offering an adjustable seat.

Leave George Harrison out of your hate. He was the only Beatle with any good songs, and wasn’t a dweeb like the others.

Honestly they are some songs I don’t mind, it’s just that the local classic rock station has one douche who loves the Beatles so we get a 2 o clock beatle block every damn day.

I always wondered how high John was to think that Yoko could sing.

Yeah......Beatles are kinda “meh” for me. You get a lot of credit when you are first at anything, but I don’t buy the hype that they were beyond compare. I tend to like the Harrison tunes. Guess I root for the underdog.

No I like Clapton, stones, ZZ Top, skynyrd, obviously zeppelin, early Aerosmith, and many more. I always tell my wife I grew up in the wrong era, I’m only 33 but I love classic rock and don’t associate with whiny millennials.

Hard for fans to hear, but Lennon was as pussy-whipped as McCartney. Linda’s keyboard playing wasn’t much better than Yoko’s voice. Both those guys....:smack:

It’s cool. I’ve seen every one of those bands in the 70’s. God music was great back then. I wish they still did the Texas Jam. 1978 was unbelievable.

    Still stock completely capable!
Good write up! It’s funny how it takes little things to remind us how good we really have it! Tacoma’s are unreal and tested and proven! All these other company’s will spend time and money and advertise and have media and youtubers tell you how new and impressive these new vehicles are. End of the day they are all trying to be the taco!!

It’s sad really, I mean I love this country but I have never not owned a Japanese vehicle. They just know how to build cars and trucks that are reliable and look good. I would gladly starting buying domestic if they ever offered something that could really compete.
