    Hey TW!

So I understand there are plenty of threads on here regarding different wheel and tire setups, but too many to filter through to find an answer.

I have an 18’ PRO and looking to put 17s on. What is the biggest Tire setup I can run without changing suspension/lift/chopping/etc. some 285s look great and would love that, but to my understanding it will rub so does that leave me with 275s as biggest option.

I appreciate any and all feedback.

If you’re getting aftermarket 17s, offset and width of the wheels will be critical to what can fit. A few on here with PRO’s have ran 285 75 16 on stock suspension.

Will be letting go of my pro 16s. Gunna run the TRD matte 17s (4Runner)

No offense taken. (Figured I would get that response) just wanted to start a fresh post to save a bit of time filtering through so many other responses, where I felt I couldn’t find a direct answer to my question.

The first link sent though for the search url was great btw lol

I haven't done it yet. The wheels arrive Wednesday. Only problem is the tires are backordered until 2/15 + shipping.

If you look at most of the 16" options you're at an E load. I did that on my first Pro (don't ask :(), and you do feel the acceleration loss. And see the mpg loss. Diff is about 10Lbs a corner from my current plan, 18Lbs a corner from stock. The 4Runner wheels stick out a bit further than the Tacoma Pro's, but with 255's it will be pretty close to what I have now.

Sidewall on the 255's will be a tad larger than the 16's I have now (Cooper ATP 265/75-16, SL), and about 6Lbs a corner heavier in a C load, but 1/2" narrower. In the end I should have about the same impact on mpg. We'll see...

I don't really crawl anymore, so the C load should be fine for my needs, YMMV.

Your transmission will last longer, better mpgs, and you’ll have more on demand power

Doesn't like anything a pair of 4.88s can't fix!
But yeah I get it. I understand the idea behind 16" rims on the pro/off-road but the reality is that most people will drive their Tacoma some what daily so the on Road performance is equally important as off road performance.

Newb question here but....what’s the reason to go to a 17inch wheel? Performance wise that is....I see a lot of folks hittin going with the 17inch Pro wheels, but I happen to like the 8 spoke 16 inch wheels better. I may be in the minority though.

Bilsteins 5100s on the top setting, 4runner Gray TRD Pro Sema wheels, 285/70/17 Toyo AT3s, Sumo Bump stops, TRD exhaust, ECGS Clamshell bushing, 1/4 shim for the lean and one inch rear block, OEM Pro grill and garnish OEM TRD Skid plate, TRD CAI, Demon Brackets, Rigid Industries Pro fog lights, OEM Trail Rails sidebars, Diode Dynamics LED SL1 high and low beam lights, OEM Roof racks, Clazzio leather heated seats, Remote Start, TRD Pro shift knob, tinted windows, Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp for the headunit and sub and amp combo, OEM Puddle lights, OEM tailgate lock, OEM bed mat, LED interior lights, OEM blackout kit for letters, JLT catch can, upgraded 27F toyota True Start battery, Vleds led tail light kit with Pro tail lights, OEM Rave4 side mirrors with convex spotters, just to name a few mods.
I would do the Toyo Open Country AT2s in a 265/70/17 SL. You might actually save some weight, I think they are lighter than your 16 Pro wheels. I run this set up and its about the same or slightly lighter than my factory 17 Sport wheels and tires. Your speedo will stay the same, ride will be better because of the SL rating and no power loss.

get a set of SR8's, some 265/70/17's call it a day.. i went thru stockwheels and tires/ then sema wheels and tires, love my set up now, gives the truck a wider stance, which looks great on our trucks.. really dont need any larger tires,, i love my ridge grapplers, almost no weight to balance them, year and a half later still love them..

I know for some cases...17in tires are heavier than their equivalent overall diameter 16in tires, which doesn't make sense...heh
