Alarm and power door locks for a 2013 Reg cab 2wd without that stuff installed?

Hey everyone, been awhile as I sold my Tacoma to get a Tundra over 3 years ago, but I got rid of that and got a great deal on a 2013 Tacoma 2wd Reg cab at auction (salvage). Manual door locks and windows, no alarm. Pretty basic. Which for me is perfect. However I want to add power door locks at least with a remote (although it would be great if there was a kit that also added a button I could add to the door) and also an alarm with starter disable preferably.

I have installed remote starts and tons of other stuff so I am pretty competent with this stuff. However I have no knowledge on what kits exist and if there is one thats easier because its designed for our trucks. Don't need remote start or any other gadgets on it. Just alarm (with starter disable), remote fob for locks, and if possible door button to unlock/lock while inside the truck (again not necessary, but would be nice).

 

In know you can get alarm kits that are non vehicle specific that include wires to power actuators and things. I've used these to add power locks and alarms to 40+ year old Volkswagens, so it can absolutely be done.

If I were in your shoes I'd start by looking at junk yards for the same year and body style but with those options already there, then just pull all the stuff that makes that happen. So the door panels, switches, door locks and actuators. Hell just see if you can work out a good deal on the doors complete. Then either start figuring out all the rest of the oem stuff or get a brand name (viper, etc.) Aftermarket alarm to drive it (could actually be easier).

Thank you for your reply, I have thought about the scavenging junk yards for parts to do it, but I am not sure what computer pieces would be needed as well as antenna location etc... When I was younger I had a Bronco II and I remember I found a kit for like 100 bucks that was specific to that car and had everything you needed to make it a plug and play affair and even had the pieces to mount the actuators in the door in a common place so fabrication of brackets/etc was not needed. I can do all that but it just seems like a waste of effort if someone released a kit specifically for the Tacoma which I am guessing has not happened because I bet the vast majority come with power door locks so the market might be too small to make it profitable. That's why I was thinking it might be easier to do a partial salvage. Get the doors or guts from the doors with the electric stuff so you have actuators and switches and everything mounted, but then just patch that into an universal aftermarket alarm that has provisions to power the actuators. That way you don't have to try to salvage or patch in oem stuff that wasn't planned for that. I haven't seen a vehicle specific kit like that for base tacos. I like the idea of the partial salvage of just the doors just because then you could get nice clean door panel switches and presumably power windows too. That could be expensive though depending on the yard.

I've only ever done this on the really old stuff though too. Looking at the modern kits they all seem to have a really simple bracket for the actuators. Basically just steel strap with holes. I wonder if they are all configured so similar now that the installation is just easier? Here's a basic alarm + lock kit from viper for two doors at only $65 on Amazon.

I went with the cheap up front method but might cost me more time in install. We will see what issues I walk into. Pretty good with welder, metal work, electronics, etc... So I think I should be fine with the following. Way less than a hundred bucks and I have 2 extra actuators if one fails.

Might go back and get a siren too, but for now I think I will see if I am happy with the horn. We will see. Plan to come back and post a walk through once done in a new thread.

 

All parts are in, bench tested, actuators are mounted to doors and are able to lock and unlock the door, now I just need to wire it all in. A separate thread will be created for the install.

I know it's dorky, but particularly with remote control stuff I always feel a bit like a modern day wizard. "Prestoooooo starto!", LOL
