    Hey all,

I am brand new to the forum, and I am looking to purchase a new Taco in the next few months. Browsing all of the topics in the various forums on this site have been an unbelievable wealth of information. I’d like to know if any of you have had any experience in getting genuine TRD parts on your vehicle when purchasing new. I am looking at a 2019 off road, double cab and I am most interested in getting a set of TRD wheels and potentially the skid plate added as a dealer option. Does anyone have any experience in doing this? Will Toyota dealers typically not do this type of work? Thanks!

The TRD wheels are cool, but i'd see what they're charging you for them in relation to what you could buy them for afterward

If you are asking, will a dealer sell you TRD parts, install them on your vehicle and charge for the cost of parts and install on your new Tacoma prior to the sale in order to up their profit margin, the answer is 100% yes, yes they will....

    Exactly.

When I went to purchase my 2016 I had a friend who worked for a dealer on their business side so I had somewhat of an in on getting a better price. Since I wanted a somewhat rare truck it wasn't as great of a deal as I probably could have gotten but that's irrelevant. I had wanted them to throw in parts into the deal and they wouldn't move. They offered to throw them in at "their cost" but even "their cost" was able to be undercut by other Toyota dealerships / dealerships on Ebay. Don't assume that they are truly selling at bottom price.

Also watch out for installation costs that are outlandish. Some dealerships are great, and some aren't. I actually got TRD wheels and tires through a Toyota dealer as they were doing a buy 3 get 1 on BFG ATs and their install costs were in line with local tire shops. Other dealers wanted $100 / tire for just install.

Yep. Like I said, I’m a few months away from purchasing. I have a connection to a parts manager at a Toyota dealership about an hour away from where I live. I have not spoken with him yet as I am going to wait until I’m ready to actually purchase the truck. Really just looking for experiences on having TRD wheels installed at the time of purchase… If anyone has that experience. Thanks everyone!

Wheels are wheels.. Unless you want to make life easy, pay dealer premiums, added to the loan. My idea is you lose out on the stock wheels, which can be sold used to help pay for the wheels/tires you really want.

What specifically are you looking for in terms of experience? How they write it up, how they roll it into the loan, etc etc? If you have specific questions, those are the ones to ask, because otherwise it's just going to be sporadic stories like you've seen.

Sometimes just going in and asking what they can do on parts is all you need to do. I just picked up the OEM all weather floor liners and black out kits from the dealer I bought my truck at. Both parts were quoted lower than the resident TW dealer vendor quoted me, and well below retail.

I negotiated those same wheels into my deal so I did not have to deal with getting them aftermarket.
