Premium Audio Upgrade for less than $250

Your install states you also installed the Subaru teeters. DId you have to splice into the wiring harness or use the supplied Crutchfield harness and your tweeters still worked? Crutchfield telling me that unless I splice it will disable the tweeters. I saw another thread that the subaru tweeters were just plug-n-play. Thanks in advance

 

The Subaru tweeters are a direct replacement for the Tacoma (Non JBL only) tweeters. You just unplug the OEM speakers, and plug in the Subaru tweeters. Nothing to buy from Crutchfield (They do not even sell the Subaru tweeters).

If you have the JBL system, you would need to do other things to make them work.

 

I plan on buying the Subaru tweets. I have a 18 PRO, but it is non JBL system (I know Shocker). If I install Kicker 6x9's in the fron with their wire set, will the tweeters in the dash still work? They are sayin have to splice into the wiring to make that happen. Want to know what your experience with the install was. Did you have to do anything special or just plug in and your dash tweets still work? Thanks

 

I got all my goodies in. Is there a particular reason to only use one set of red and black to the crossover? Guessing you don’t want to bridge the wires going in if it’s gonna messup the ohms the thing is gonna get? I got the infinity reference component set for the fronts.

 

So this is where the annoying wiring choice by Toyota comes in

One set of red/black is what is coming FROM the radio.
The other set is what is going TO the door speaker.
So the audio signal comes from the radio, through the tweeter, then to the door.

So I finished the install on these yesterday afternoon, I'm very happy with the quality of the sound, but see myself wanting to get an amp to increase the volume.

Also - this could very well be me hyper-focusing, but I'll occasionally think the passenger side of the truck isn't playing, or even that the driver side is just louder. Has anyone else felt that post-install?

I've never installed speakers on my own before so I feel I might be paranoid I messed up.

 

Use your fader controls to test each side of the truck.

 

I honest to baby Jebis didn't even think of that...to be fair i'm running on next to no sleep. Will try.

 

Check you balance and fade controls. You will know based on adjusting those, left, right, front, and back. Also, seating position could impede sound. Adjust these controls and you should know and adjust to best sound for your seated position. I am doing mine this weekend and will be doing the same, but have done some installs in past. No expert, but some experience

 

If your fade/balance is centered, it will 100% sound like the drivers side is louder.
After all, you're closer to the drivers side.

You'll see a lot of people in the audio world doing hardcore tuning and time alignment adjustments and all sorts of stuff to make their vehicle sound the way they want. My personal truck is time-aligned so that it sounds like I'm at a concert, center of the audience, with a wall of speakers in front of me.
It's not super centralized (I've tuned cars where it sounded like there was one speaker in the car, right on top of the gauge cluster) but it is centered to my ears so it sounds like I'm in the middle. Play with your balance and fade till it sounds best to your ears.

 

That's what I thought too! I guess I was just a little weirder out because the stock ones never did that. But that makes sense. I'll fidget with it today.

 

Crisp and clean with no caffeine! Just did the tweeter install and it is great! I have the Kicker door speakers on order and will be installing them soon.

 

For those who added an amp like the key, after you did the upgrades with the sub...

Did adding the amp make the door speakers drown out the sub volume?

 

Usually those hideaway powered subs have their own volume control, and some can be tuned for gain so you can get the level up, but not sure what you went with. Personally, if I was going to add an amp and a powered sub I'd be looking at a slightly higher end set of door speakers as well, likely with a bit less sensitivity to give better control over volume/clarity. But I would think that there is some tuning you could do to balance things out.

tried searching but does anyone know if it the entune premium-non JBL for the 2016 TRD off-road tacomas are 6" or 7" lcd screens? I know I can go out and measure it but I won't be able to until later tonight since the truck isn't currently with me.

 

Where are the radio knobs?
