1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

The brake splash shields are ugly. Thinking about freshening them up. (Because the Por15 is taking too long to dry on the spindles and I'm searching for something to do) Thinking of doing something different and painting them silver. Anyone want to talk me out of this?

Seems like the spindles are taking forever to dry.

 

Just do black, anything else the brake dust will justness turn it ugly

 

That's kind of what I'm thinking. Not sure if it's even worth painting these at all.

Lol. Yeah well I've only been a AAA for 2 yrs now & have never needed to use their roadside services. My buddy got me AAA to transfer ownership of a car, that's how we got around a smog referee ticket.

 

Eh if you have em off and they’re not rotted I’d paint them black. Just makes it look all the more cleaner for a while

 

I'm pretty sure AAA will help you if you're on dirt as long as it's a public fire road, some of which access harder trails (they won't go on a 4x4 trail though I'm sure). I know of at least one guy that rolled his truck up in Big Bear on a fire road and AAA got him

Yeah I know at Gorman they'll come out to the two main roads but they won't go onto Pipeline Rd. It's technically a fireroad but too small for a tow truck.

 

How do you know when your master brake cylinder is going out?

Soft brakes?

 

Or no brakes...hopefully it won't come to that though

If you have unusually soft brakes and bleeding them fully/changing out the fluid doesn't help and your lines are all good then it might be time to look at the MC

 

Pedal will sink to the floor slowly as you are applying pressure to it.

 

How hard is it to change?

 

Paint them black atlest. Those things are so thin theyll likely rust even in CA. I had to snip chunks off mine when I did my brakes. Too many holes in them.

 

Dunno, never done it myself... @Blue92 what happened with your brake issue you were having awhile back, did you have to change out the MC?

 

Not that hard especially if you do the shortcut of bleeding it at the hardlines if you know how. Brake nazis will disagree. But the proper way by the book is to fully bleed the whole system. Should bench bleed the master cylinder first too, I always do, saves a lot of time.

 

Ya, I'll have to snip these for my Tundra brakes too. I'll probably just paint em black. And touch them up again when I cut em.

 

It took care of itself after bleeding every night for a week. Also got an A-OK from the dealer.

Theyre "easy" to change, just make sure you bench bleed it properly.
