Ahhh May have work out a way to get new tires sooner. Have KO2s now. Any recommendations on a better tire? Thinking 285/75/17

I've been really happy with my Cooper STMaxx. I came from KO2s as well. I have nothing against KO2s (had 2 sets back to back) but wanted something different, and in a 255/85r16 size which only has a few options. But they do really well on every trail I've had them on...dirt, rock, snow and even mud (not great in mud but they aren't MTs)

If money were no object, I'd get Cooper ST Pro's....those are some beautiful rubbers

I wish the Pro's came in 255/85R16, I'd run those instead of the Maxx's (which I also generally like @Dan8906).

Mine have taken a beating and have chunked up a bit on the outer edges, but my KO2s were much worse as far as chunking goes. I was also rubbing pretty bad after I first put them on which didn't help matters. But as far as traction goes, I've been really happy with them overall.

and yeah, unfortunately we're pretty limited in the skinny tire department with 16s...KM2s I think are the only big brand MT available. I saw some lesser known tire options on eBay and such but the Coopers seemed to be the best bet.

I have a regular Cooper Discoverer (not STMaxx) as a spare in the same size. I had to run it once and man that thing howls on the street lol.

OK, I stand corrected. Mine are indeed fiberglass. I always thought they were plastic. I went out to my garage to check it out. There was a piece on the bottom of one that has worn through, I pulled a little chunk off and sure enough it's fiberglass. Owned the truck for 18 years and you would think I would know it, guess not.

Anti-theft mod! Prevent easy viewing of your belongings inside the shell!
For as much as you get out wheeling, you would probably be better off getting a second set of wheels with commuter tires and a decent rapid-rise jack and just swap in 30 minutes before you head to the trails. Also, with some lighter tires you'll be happy with those 4.88's for once!

Fuck. Need some help. Front diff fluid leaking out. Not sure what to do? Can I still drive it? I’m currently 10 miles or so to an auto part store. Any suggestions? Did I blow my new front gears? I did hear a pop yesterday thought something hit my skid plate. Not sure tho.

Where is it leaking from? If it's around the axle seal, the CV probably just popped out and you need to re-seat it.

Don’t look like it’s around the seal. Stopped at a shop to pull the skid plate off and take a better look

Wonder if they didn't put one of the CVs back in correctly when they put the diff back in after doing your gears

Or if it's leaking from the drain plug then they probably didn't tighten it

Well, there's only a few possibilities. It's either leaking from the axle seals (easy fix), from the drain or fill plug (easy fix, unless they're cross threaded), from the pinion seal, or from the joint where the extension tube bolts to the clamshell. If the extension tube wasn't sealed properly and/or torqued to spec, that could be the source.

I guess I should add, could be from the clamshell joint itself. Not an easy fix.
