This has been standard since the 2nd gen first came out in late 2004 as a 2005 model

 

Really like the magnetic attachment. What is the part number for that, did you use a base mount?

For all who are interested, this has all the components. You will still need to supplement with the correct bolt size, @motionridr8 will be able to get you set up with that.

EDIT: Added the XL grip for large phones/Phablets in there too.

 

Finally got around to doing this! Pretty happy with the results.

Local hardware store didn't have a M6x55mm bolt, so I ended up with a 60mm. Stacked up a few flat washers, a lock washer, nut and jamb nut as pictured below. Gave an equally good result. Far enough out of the grab handle to swivel the arm around, but not too far. Went through a few iterations of RAM mount arms to get my big ass LG V30 to fit the way I wanted. Ended up with the 3" single arm as suggested in the OP and the Large X-Grip. Looks super clean, still have room around the steering wheel even with gloves on, and hardly lost any field of view out the front windshield.

I tried the double socket swivel thing (RAP-B-200-2U), but didn't have luck getting it far enough back with such a big phone.

Also ran a USB C charging cable up through the pillar while I was there. Ziptied it to the stock harness down through the pillar to hopefully keep it away from the airbag. Then under the dash, across the trans tunnel and over to the passenger side where to 12V outlets are. Plug it into a USB adapter when in use, or it just lays in the cubby. Drilled a few small holes in the pillar just big enough for the USB plug to fit through. Ziptied the excess up under the steering column.

So I put this on my Taco a few months ago and wired it up to charge my phone with a fuse tap. I obviously did something wrong because it charges very slowly. Additionally, I've found that during cold weather sometimes the phone won't even register that it's connected to the charging port. It will say "charging" then stop. "Charging," then stop. Like I'm plugging it in then unplugging it constantly. Again, this happens during cold weather. I'm considering tearing it out and getting a tech deck instead.

 

You are still going to end up with the same charging issue. Which circuit did you tie it into and is there a larger one available to try?

 

What usb port did you get? Some have a different charge rate. I had one of those cigarette lighter chargers ones that would charge one phone fine plug in two and the second one would do what your discribing.

 

Good idea, but I'm not so concerned with the low charge rate. I can live with that. It's the constant "disconnecting" during cold weather. I find it strange. And aggravating. If I put in a tech deck, I can mount my phone where I can always use the cigarette lighter chargers.

Lol not even sure you're still active but did you end up cannibalizing a dash mount or just going the peel and stick route?

 

I cannibalized a dash mount, but the ball was too small to work with the RAM Mount. Also the magnet wasn't strong enough, in my opinion, to trust it to hold the phone securely with the case on it.

 

Thanks for that information. Do you think it'd be strong enough for an ultra gauge?

 

I honestly don't know. I have never held an ultra gauge, I've only seen pictures of them.

which is the right socket arm i need? part numbers seem similar but one is short and one is longer??

 

Depends on what you choose, the medium is metal which I like, i have 2 and a ball to ball mount

 

yeah think i’m going to get the medium $9.79 one as the other 2 are shorter which wouldn’t be good

 

They are plastic same as the 3 way adjustable one. I have all and I stick the the medium metal
