These look pretty cool, especially the Passport. I'm not a huge fan of the Blazer styling, but it's nice to have some competition.

    https://www.motortrend.com/news/auto-showdown-2019-honda-passport-vs-2019-chevrolet-blazer/

The new Passport fits size and price-wise between the CRV and the Pilot. I had a CRV my son currently has--250K miles on the odo, still going strong. My fiancee's daughter has her old Pilot which has 350K miles on it and won't die.

As far as Blazers, my brother had one in the 80's which we used for off-roading. It was a tank on the 4WD-only roads near Winter Park, CO.

Anyway, I'm interested in the Passport. Decent gas mileage (low 20's), good HP, 0-60 in the low 6-seconds, 5000-lb towing capacity. Plus good looks for a mid-size SUV.

What do you guys think? I think Toyota had better move up their redesign of the 4Runner from 2021 to ASAP.

I think the post should have been in the 4 Runner or general automotive forum.

Photos and recapitulation of marketing materials by 'Motor Trend' doesn't make me want to open my wallet either.

I'll wait for the real deal to show up.

But I do hope there is enough interest that it make Toyota look up from their morning coffee. Although it's pretty doubtful.

I am not a fan of ANY Government Motors product! Especially a Chevrolet. So I would never consider even looking at a Blazer. The Passport isn't bad honestly. of those 2 it would definitely be my choice. But I don't think either of them can/will compete with the 4R. I admit, the 4R needs a refresh/redesign immediately, but I think it will be just fine if they hold off.

Ive been thinking the T4R was due. Same with the Sequoia.
My wife has a Pilot Touring which is pretty nice. I wanted a T4R for her, but she thought it looked too masculine and no third row. We have our third little one on the way, so third row is a must now. Settled on the Pilot after seeing the Sequoia price tag and fuel rating in the 5.7 iforce. Ouch.
The Passport looks nice. Like a smaller Pilot. Im sure it will sell very well.
Is GM keeping the Equinox AND adding Blazer?

Oops. I should have said 3G Taco VS Honda Passport...LOL...

Seriously it is something I am considering. Talk me out of a Passport.

Yes I realize it doesn't have the hauling or offroad capabilities, but it does 95% of what the Tacoma does for cheaper and more up to date tech. No MT though unfortunately.

That Chevy looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before.

The 4Runner seems to be selling well, so I don’t think Toyota is in a rush to change it. Personally, I would be okay with some minor upgrades like push button start on the SR5, blind spot monitoring, better touch screen head unit, etc. The engine and transmission are so smooth, I would be disappointed if they changed it.

The Blazer and Passport are fwd crossovers, so they’re closer to the RAV4 and Highlander than the 4Runner. Nothing wrong with crossovers, but I prefer the old body on frame rear wheel drive suv.

Agreed. Unfortunately, when Toyota does do a refresh, they’ll probably throw out all the good with the dated. The never ending quest to meet ever higher fuel efficiency standards does not inspire confidence. If Toyota just modernized the interior, I would scoop one up in a heartbeat. But that interior is straight out of the 2000’s. The big gray plastic dash pieces are fugly.

I spent time in the passport a month ago and it's really nice, but I can't get over its weird large body, small tires look. The same thing that keeps me from liking the Forrester.

The funniest thing is their IG posts of the passport off road with big rocks with those low profile all season tires LOL they get called out on it every time

Stop buying throw away washers and driers and you'll be fine. I don't know why any washer or drier needs bluetooth and an LCD screen.

That’s what they are. Mini-vans have a negative ‘soccer-Mom’ image so we have this huge stable of mini-van equivalents with various names like crossover and mini-Ute. In the end they are all identical and pretending otherwise is comical. None of them have a single feature that isn’t centered around getting groceries and taking your kids to baseball and gymnastics.

Nothing wrong with a practical family oriented vehicle. The hilarity is from pretending that it isn’t so. Self-delusion makes one quite vulnerable to marketing tactics and they are clearly working.

Even the venerable Explorer is a unibody design and has been for at least two product cycles.

A minivan would haul a washer or dryer easy. (I've had 4.)

We had a full-size truck that was very handing for pulling a pop-up camper, but there was literally nothing we used it for that a decent medium-sized SUV couldn't do. I had one of those too.

The enclosed back area is often very useful when you have stuff you want protected from the elements--luggage, food and beverage, etc.

    Re' Applebees--manual or automatic?
