Disaster/survival kit

Hello, Just wondering if anyone has a disaster/survival kit, And what do you have in it?

 

Yes, of course. I have several, is there one type in particular you wanted to know about? Truck or ???

 

Maybe something you have in your house/shop that you can just grab and put in your vehicle

 

After the Camp Fire we put together a kit in a tote that was ready to go. It has the usual change of clothes and some food, but we also added copies of important paperwork and such. Reading about how some people over there couldn't even prove their home had insurance was a little sketchy.

 

You mean like a kit for immediate evacuation - like the Cali fires scenarios or like, Zom-pocolypse?

 

I also keep my backpacking kit all packed up and ready to go. Sleeping bag, cooking kit etc.

 

Yes Earthquake, flood, fire etc

 

Only put meat and cheese in the taco. No veggies. Make sure you have plenty of taco sauce.

I have a 2 go bags one I keep in truck all the time an one at the house if it was to catch fire an I needed to GTFO quick.
Truck has 2 mres, extra change of cloths an hiking boots, rain gear, 3 magizines filled with .45 I keep glock concealed, 2 ways of fire starting, battery bank for phone, pair of leather gloves, gerber, an a good bowie knife, first aid kit, an a roll of 550 cord an map of my local area.
House bag a spare credit card, id, passport small amount of cash, battery bank an charger, 2 days of cloths/shoes small caliber handgun an a buck knife.
Clothes get changed out with the seasons.

dont know if they are not hard to find so wanna have a fighting chance. Dad was career AF an I was Army so guess being prepped for whatever kinda got imprinted. I watch to much locked up aboard an taken movies.

Here's a short list of resources for you to research:
CERT - They have a lot of good info on what to put into a Go-Kit - from personal info like medical records to socks and underwear.
FEMA.GOV - In general they are all about emergency preparedness and have a good list of items to pack.

In general, it's about having a bag of "What you need every day to be alive" but also about being able to prove who you are (SSN, etc.) and being able to say good-bye to everything you own because the fire/wave/flood/etc is going to take it.

It's a mind set of types. Grabbing one bag only and expecting everything else left behind to be destroyed. Clothes, food, eye glasses, meds, ID, cash, credit cards, etc.

Each person you are responsible for needs their own bag - including animals if you are inclined to treat them like family members.

Someone above mentioned insurance stuff - pics of everything you own to prove you had it. Think "documentation" - here are photos of my Star Wars figures - in the wrappers and valued at $xxx (before Disney bought them they were worth $xxxx) and so on.

Jump drives for each Team Member with medical records, etc.

I keep a bag in my truck plus have a tool bag and first aid kit. Cheap insurance to be prepared for a breakdown or becoming stranded.

 

I have all my camping supplies next to the garage door so its easily accessible even if the house falls down. Now if the garage catches fire first, I'm fooked.

 

Truck survival kit is oriented towards being stuck in the woods for a week+.

So, basic bits - offroading recovery kit bits, including comealong, trax, etc. Survival stuff is lifeboat ration bars and water packets under the seats. 406 PLB. Firestarting kit, couple of aluminized blankets, lifestraw. General cold weather stuff. 10W solar panel.

Earthquake? Flood? Fire? As long as we pulled away okay, we're good for a bit. If it's a house fire or something that doesn't affect everyone, we've got enough to not go hungry/thirsty, cards and cloud backup of stuff like documents.

There's a few bits of kit in the house, but I believe in scenario based planning. We're not going to have stuff packed for implausible cases.
