I'm always up to helping anyone at anytime. Since this is TacomaWorld, isn't that off topic of the entire website?

I just grab my 110 AHr battery when I know I'm going to crossband. The v71a will crossband all weekend without too much issue. It works well, I just put it in the backseat and connect up some ring terminals to it, and we are good to go.

Got the HF rig up and running this afternoon. Put up an 8 band vertical this morning, ran the radials, and coax back into the house. Then wired up the radio this afternoon. Already made a few contacts: Saskatchewan and Maine. Now to figure out what all of the buttons do...

After searching local for a couple days I never could find the needed M2.6 bolts needed to mount the Icom head unit so I logged on to McMaster Carr and had to order a box of 50. Already have some 1/8x1/2” aluminum stock and some other misc bolts laying around. All in I’ll be around $30 including the ram mount to mount this head unit instead of the $45 just for the magnetic mount kit they sell. Will post pics once everything comes in.

@foy1der are the goats optional for SOTA trips?

Looking like March for the General exam with the Nashua Area Radio Society. Gives me time to save for a first rig.

Look up wg0at. I believe he is the one that pioneered using SOTA and goats. I follow him on Facebook and it seems like he does a SOTA activation with his goat(s) approximately every other day or so.

And if you activate enough summits, and earn enough internet radio points, you too can get a piece of paper that says you are a goat.

My wife enjoys pointing out that I enjoy an activity that involves collecting internet radio points, she especially likes that there is a checkbox that basically states "I totally promise that I actually did this"

I've ready about it. Obviously you found a few good videos on it. My deal is that normally if I'm near a repeater , I also have cell service and just use my cell. If I'm far out and using aprs in the middle of no where for back country comms, I'm probably using full power at a specific time and location to hit a digipeater that's very far away, more than the 5-10w most HT put out.

Now this is where you get one a report back to us that the digital radio has tons of string and can hit towers super far away and we all go get one.:rofl::spending:

It has limited APRS functionality. No APRS messaging, No Smartbeacon. It's a great DMR radio whether you're going through a DMR repeater or using a DMR hotspot. So If you're buying it for the DMR portion then it's a good buy.
As far as APRS is concerned, a dedicated radio is best. A Baofeng with a Mobilinked and an Android phone (no cell service required) work fine for APRS.

All the pieces came in for my ram mount set up. Now just having to wait to get my truck back from the body shop to get the radio installed.

Any here, or know someone , in the Denver area who could suggest well traveled 2m/440 repeaters? Looking to get a friend into amature radio out there and wanted to find him some good traffic he could listen to just to see what it's like in regards to commuting.
