Ecgs bushing install

I used the kit that ECGS offers and it took me like 5 minutes.

Now, getting the old needle bearing out with the tool from ECGs... that took much, much longer, and a grinder to modify said tool. And a trip to Home Depot to modify said tool some more...

It seems like everyone that does this makes good time in some areas, then gets crushed doing something else.

 

Yup, getting the needle bearing out with the tool was the easy part but I forgot to put the ECGS in the freezer and getting it in was a biotch.

 

I have a 3rd gen with about 8,000 miles on it. It has a dealer installed lift (yes, it is just spacers). After about 2,000 miles I noticed the rhythmic vibration between 35-50 mph that goes away when I engage 4h. I have had it to the dealer twice - once they said they couldn't hear anything, the second time they told me it is tire noise (yes, they actually said that). Anyhow, I know I need to upgrade to the ECGS bearing. I doubt the dealer will do it for me and can't imagine what they would charge if they did agree. Does anybody know someone in the Waukesha, Wisconsin area that has experience with this?

 

Make the dealer do it. How do they excuse the tire noise going away in 4Hi?

Ask them if you buy the ECGS bushing, will they install.

 

I have the puller and race for rent if anyone needs it.

I sent it to someone last month and he sent it back with a $20 dollars bill. So rent is free. Let me know, I’ll ship it to you, use it and ship it back, or ship it on to the next person and keep it going.

about to tackle this my self.

 

The set is off to Duncan in the morning. I’m going to start putting in the 35mm socket for the axle nut, along with the race and puller.

Yep, thanks again. Stumpy put 20 bucks in the box as well on return shipment. I’ll apply it all to sharing the tool.

 

OK DONE. whole job took about 1.3 hours. and thats with getting more beer. i did the job my self.
tricks i did.
1- removed the dust cap and cotter pin. remounted the wheel and lowered the truck, then with the center cap off, i broke the nut loose.
2- used a ratchet strap to hold the hub out of the way.
3- used a pry bar and a hammer to TAP the axle out from under the diff by using the little "notches"

thanks to Turd for lending the removal tool, installer, and 35mm axle nut socket.

 

I could use this tool. If it is available I will go ahead and order the bearing right now

Wow! 1.3 hours doesn't sound that bad! LOL! Hopefully my install goes as smooth. Going to try and line up all the tools and steps before the part shows up.

 

I wussed out and had a shop do it. We have a couple of good 4x4 shops here.
A little over an hour shop labour, I didn’t swear once during install.
Doing your own install will be more rewarding for sure.

 

Ahhh... Got ya. Yea, I'm really considering just going that route as well. I don't mind the reward of doing it myself, but sometimes somethings I don't want to mess with. LOL!

 

Having the removal tool was what made it faster... and spend most of the time print out the axle.

 

Going to try to tackle this also but need the tool. I’ve debated on whether or not to fight the dealer to fix it but I think I’ll do it myself.
