    Hello all,

Didn't see this posted before, so I figured I would shoot this out. Linked below is the site for California residents, but I'm sure there are many others available in other states. If you have the links to yours, feel free to share and I can try to update this post.

Go onto the following site and search your name - you can search your full first name or just initial. Results will vary and I'm not entirely sure on the process to claim things.

Family member of mine is owed $150+ from Kaiser. "California's Unclaimed Property Law requires corporations, businesses, associations, financial institutions, and insurance companies (referred to as "Holders") to annually report and deliver property to the California State Controller's Office after there has been no activity on the account or contact with the owner for a period of time specified in the law - generally (3) three years or more."

Post your results $$$ for fun, curious what some people are owed.

    Cheers!

    Ohio has the same.
I was owed $16 from a deposit on a electric account from my college days almost fifty years ago.
The hassle to prove I was the person listed was more than $16 was worth to me!

    All states have a version.

While the lists are long, the only folks I've known to have funds out there were ones who had not always been diligent in their business affairs.

I just checked VA's version, it appears to be run by a subcontracted company as I was prompted to click a link from a .gov website to a .org website. It won't say exactly what I'm owed, just that it's greater than $50 from a power company that I haven't used for 10+ years. I have to register with the site to view the details.

Usually the state has to legally hold it until it is claimed. In CA at least, we had to turn the money for paychecks, etc over to the state (escheatment process) after 3 years.

The state claims it is so the state can make a level playing field for getting your money, but really it is so they can collect all the interest while you don't claim it.

Speaking as someone who has to file all the documentation with the CA SCO, PLEASE claim your shit. The paperwork is super tedious and stupid. Then they make you send the info in ON A FLOPPY DISK!

This is pretty much my experience as an escheatment agent as well. Unfortunately the state requires the same process if you are owed 10 dollars or 5000 dollars.

We only had to file like ~5K last year, but since CA makes you mail a notification letter in advance, then send in the estimate to the state, then in a 2 week period in June actually file, I almost wish it was way more since the amount of work is the same.

I mean, ideally, people would be on top of it and have their money claimed in an appropriate amount of time. We had a guy that REFUSED to cash his first paycheck because it was a souvenir o_O He couldn't comprehend that you can cash a check via app and not shred it. Ended up having to void his check, and hand him a wad of cash just to avoid the paperwork.

Looked under my last name but I had a $42.00 from something military related. I cant claim it legally since it wasnt my money, but Uncle Sam's. These are some amounts Ive seen under my last name that are significant...would be nice to find them and let them know...
