Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I echo alot of what @bshammer0 posted in his initial review.

Drove 1.05 back from Montana yesterday (400KMs) after flashing on a warm engine and letting it idle for 15 mins.
Got 12.3L/100KM on 91 (Winter Gas). For comparison, I was getting 13.8 L/100KM on 87 1.04R.

This has made a WORLD of difference. With ECT on, I could cruise up hills where I was normally cursing the truck for its constant shifting. ALSO, the truck is so much quieter...
Power, drive-ability, and comfort are all massively improved. I can't say enough good things about 1.05.

Yes, I had in hang in 4th once or twice after cresting large hills and I do have some slight idle movement (base just over 500 RPM to about 700 RPM) but Ill let it settle a bit more before I contact Mat. These are VERY MINOR. I may reflash and see if thats helps. I also have the custom tuning option, so when thats ready I'll go that route.

Mods: 265/75/16 AT tires, 2.5" Lift, Borla Muffler.

1.05 IMO is so far ahead of 1.04R, it is a completely different truck. Can't thank @OVTune enough for what he is doing.

 

100% agree. Also, he said if he changed it, it would affect the deceleration too (coast). You can use ECT too to make shift points higher.

I've had the surge in reverse once on 1.05 (yes, I'm giving it some time/miles). I don't recall ever having this previously on any tune or stock on my truck.

 

600 miles on 1.05. Same commute...

 

Then people may have to push a button or slide a shift lever over......might be too hard to do.

 

Regearing and retuning I get, but if you're not going to bother with a regear I'm not sure what good you're really going to see from a [EDIT] custom tune. Seems like a futile effort. I hope I'm wrong, but I remain skeptical.

They're already driving AT's so yes, I would say too hard to do.

 

Only 250 miles so far, the driveability and consistency have gone through the roof.

What I have noticed though is alot more fluctuation in the realtime MPG. When I used to drive to work it would stay almost maxed out to 30 with a couple drastic drops. Now i see its rolling been 20 and 27. The average has been working out the same, but the needle doesn't move from about 1750 RPMs. I don't hear or feel anything that aligns. If anything the engine is more quiet.

Not a complaint at all, I just find it very interesting. I'd like to know what is really happening in there. As far as I can tell I am not dropping gears, it looks like more or less gas is being used at a given time to hold the needle steady. That could be totally wrong because I don't know much about cars.

 

It's already been well established that these trucks are very touchy. A perfect example is @MOC221_ vs my own truck. He needs custom tuning and yet I don't, and this remains true when we run the same maps. Plus, people experience their tune and their driving experience differently. What I feel is just fine, you may think is horrible. Custom tuning becomes an option

 

Yes, probably always there, i think i find myself overthinking every little thing after the flash (but i swear i never noticed it before, ever). One of these weekends i will spend an entire day flashing between stock, 1.04r and 1.05, and see what i notice, in the meanwhile I will enjoy 1.05, it is awesome and finally made my truck worth keeping!

 

I don't ever plan on flashing back to stock. I liked the progress that was made with 1.04, but as of now I don't think I'll ever flash out of 1.05.

 

The one thing that kind of peeves me about 1.05 is that I have to mash the pedal to see anything more than 3000 rpm in my truck. To me the pedal isn’t responsive enough. Gotta wait for custom tuning

 

Personally, I am all about performance when you talk about tuning. I got onboard with OVT @v1.04, running Shell's 93 octane, as always. I never heard about any "V 1.04R". I did get an update email notice for v 1.05, but I am not clear as to its advantages over the v1.04 I am now running. Could someone elaborate on the differences between the two? If V 1.05 is a "calming-down" of previous tunes, I am unsure if I want that. And since I never had the opportunity to run v 1.03, etc. - Could someone explain the performance characteristics? I like get-up and go.

In a nutshell, 1.04 was an older version of the tune. 1.04R was for people who got the TSB but still wanted a taste of being tuned again, and so Mat altered some stuff to hold people over until 1.05 dropped.

Then an initial version of 1.05 for the MT dongle crowd dropped. Then Mat ended up rewriting pretty much all the code and this new version of 1.05 that everyone is talking about is the result.

Any news on the MT tunes?

 

Hey all. I got the Tactrix Openport 2.0 adapter, paid the fees and sent all my info off to OV but just now found out that 1.05 does not support a 2019 MT? I have a 2019 Pro with the MT. Anyone care to chime in on what options I have. I was wanting to go with the 91 octane tune. Also what happens if by accident you get a lower octane fuel in your tank. I live in one of the two states that has attendants pump gas for you. I have seen numerous times where they put gasoline into diesel vehicles so this is a very valid concern.

 

So I try and follow this thread for updates, but damn it goes fast and I miss things.

Any ETA for shipping out the handhelds with 1.05? I had purchased a while ago and told Matt I would prefer to wait for the handheld vice receiving a dongle with 1.04.

 

You need to follow the install instructions and get the registry files from Mat. He's currently working on the MT tune for 1.05 (we hope) so right now, I'd just follow the instructions and get the info sent off to Mat so he can create your registry file and send you all the 1.05 tunes when he's got them completed.

 

Nope, tomorrow at the very earliest. I'm going to guess not till late end of week or next.
