Actually when you buy any newest Toyota you will get the technology that is already "obsolete" in other brands (Toyota is very conservative with putting new stuff).

I did not know that. We are very basic when it comes to cars. So this Corolla is really fancy for what we are used to. I guess I need to keep up.

My wife's last car, 2011 Corolla, was all manual: transmission, door locks, and windows. My truck is the same. The only reason we have this 2015 Corolla is because the 2011 was totaled almost 2 years ago.

dang I didn't know they still sold cars with all manual options in 2011...I thought that ended after the late 90s/early 2000s except for fleet vehicles.

I think people did better before the light came around.

yup, we're being trained to become less self-sufficient/self-reliant by virtually everything anymore...especially cars. Lights, sensors, beeps/buzzes, automatic braking/swerving...we're headed for the kind of society that Wall-E warned us about several years ago lol

Yeah, we were surprised too. My wife is very low-maintenance when it comes to cars. All she requests is that it has AC, stick, and is blue. So when we bought the 2011, she was very happy for the simplicity of it.

The 2015, we bought off of Carvana. She browsed and browsed. I was shocked that she chose the S model with all of the features. She was sold on the 6 speed manual transmission. Everything else was a bonus for her.

    So true.

The Maintenance Required light annoys me. Sad that people need it to remind them when to do an oil change. It's like they can't read the sticker the lube places put on their windows, and do the math to figure out if it's time.

I'm curious what would happen to kids if shop became a mandatory class. Also curious how many calls the ER would get for cut off fingers

The sensor is just a thermistor wired in series with the low fuel warning bulb. When it's submerged in gas it stays cold and has high resistance so the bulb doesn't get a lot of current. When the gas level drops below the thermistor it heats up and its resistance drops, so the current increases enough to light the bulb.

Toyota sometimes has the warning bulb and wiring on a particular car but the fuel gauge sender doesn't have the thermistor sensor. Or the thermistor is worn out/broken. You'd have to pull the sender out to see if you ever had the option. If the thermistor is bad it might be possible to solder in a new one.

We made it through the '70s when every kid was high. Just a few cut fingers. Wanna know something funny? Some of the biggest stoners have become pretty wealthy.

edit: computers have a lot to do with it. They got in on the ground floor.

My gas light comes on when I'm on E, I have no idea if I have 1gal or 3gal left. I've heard 18gal tanks but read 16.8gal tanks so yeah. It works you probably just never get that low

    People,
You need to be so low on fuel to get the light it isn't even funny! Needs to be down to < 2 gallons to get the light. I only know because I had a bad gas tank and wanted to make it light for safe removal. Remember.. running low may starve the only lubricating source for your pump which is gasoline!
