Took my truck to the mechanic for a check engine light and he said the upstream sensor needs to be replaced. went on rock auto and found the part number which is the denso 234-9001.
$111 on rock auto and Amazon!
Around $60 on eBay but I'm worried about them being Chinese knock offs.

does anyone think I'll be okay buying off eBay?

heres the link to the one I've been looking at.

Look at feedbacks to see if buyer has sold any knock off items,
Looks ok to me, as long as it has the Toyota box and is marked DESNO on the item I think your ok,
I bought a set. Few years ago off eBay with no issues and if there is an issue you can always return it with eBay rules

just saw in the description that it doesn't come with the Toyota box.
think I'm gonna pass and just go with part sold by the denso store on Amazon.

    eh.

Some guys sell none OEM parts in OEM boxes to trick people
Then sell the OEM part without the box trying to get the same amount of money for "almost" factory sealed OEM.

The third picture in that ad shows the markings on the piece saying DENSO. if you receive it and it doesn't have legitimate markings on it just return it. I would buy it. I risked it like this on a charcoal canister and it had OEM Denso markings just like the factory one from 2004. for an 02 sensor...OEM is not necessary

There are many fake parts on Amazon and especially eBay. If it's not in original packaging I would pass.

I just went to the local Pep Boys to get my Denso o2 sensor, worth a few extra bucks to me for peace of mind and ease of return if I found something wrong with it.

FWIW, I got a fake Denso air/fuel sensor on flebay that caused me all sorts of frustration until it was replaced. Says Denso right on it but looked quite a bit different from the actual one. I would only buy from a reputable retailer.

I am guessing the one on the right was the original/correct part?

I would bet the two sensors in your picture are meant for a different positions withing the exhaust system, hence different part numbers. Same reason you see negative reviews on the OP's link about the wiring being 6" too short = upstream vs downstream 02 sensor

I cant tell in the picture but whats that part number for the 02 sensor on the left?

The one on the right is fake. The left is the actual denso replacement. I didn't take a picture of the OEM unit I took out.

They both were sold with the same part number, and are the upstream (air/fuel) sensor.

The plug length has to do with manual vs auto trans.

    Really?

The one that has been clearly used is the fake? and has the heat shield over the wiring (extra expense)? the oval shape on the cut outs is an extra expense as well..that (vaguely guessing here) i assume only a legit manufacturer would go through.
Seems unlikely but not impossible, the one on the left has an obviously different part number as well.

I have dealer replaced 02 sensors on my truck that have the "nut" style looking piece above the flange and say "made in japan"

    Yes, really.

The one on the right looks used as it was. I ran it for several months, which caused poor fuel economy, constant check engine lights, and the occasional misfire. I took the picture when swapping to the actual one that has been in for a while with zero issues.

not trying to be a dick. Genuinely curious and just confused (its late for me)

the one on the left....I ran for several months, which caused poor fuel economy..etc.."
"I took the picture when swapping to the actual.."

so the clean looking sensor on the left was "used" and the obviously dirty sensor on the right was the "actual"/new sensor/correct sensor your referencing?

your line "used as it was" has me confused (sorry im an idiot) makes me think its the problem sensor (the sensor on the left).

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
I've bought all kinds of stuff from eBay and Amazon that is OEM.

It has always shown up in OEM packaging and the parts have always said Toyota, Denso, Koyo, etc.

But I always check that the seller has history and good feedback etc.

I did get burned on a set of wheel cylinders now that I think about it. They arrived and where not actual OEM. But overall I've had good luck.
