Belt Buckle Releasing While Driving

The other day I went to get out of my truck and the belt buckle would not release. I squirmed my way out of the truck and while I was washing the truck my wife got it to release (after about 5 minutes). Now, while I am driving it has randomly released the seat belt on several occasions. I made a point to make sure the seat belt was engaged properly (tugged on it and it was locked in) and it still keeps releasing while I am driving. Anybody ever have this happen to them? any ideas how to fix it beside replacing the buckle? ($70). Do you think Toyota would honor a warranty claim on this? 2015 toyota tacoma double cab sport with 85,000 miles. Thanks!

 

Could be a quarter in the buckle.

 

I would get that taken care of immediately. Safety first, you are worth $70 my friend.

 

Get a new buckle ASAP. Pull seat (4 bolts) and replace.

 

I believe that the seat belts are warrantied for the life of the car

 

I've never seen anything that supports that. Wouldn't make much sense. Do you have a link?

 

I remember reading it in the warranty book on my '11 but so long ago that I can't quote. You could call your local dealer and check

Here's a little hint from page 12:

Restraint Systems Warranty This warranty covers repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship of any seatbelt or air bag system supplied by Toyota, subject to the exceptions indicated under “What Is Not Covered” on pages 13-14. Coverage is for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. For vehicles sold and registered in the state of Kansas, the warranty for seatbelts and related components is 10 years, regardless of mileage.

 

@AKTaco907, did you end up fixing this yourself or did you take it somewhere? My front passenger seat belt buckle has started giving me issues on my 2015 Tacoma. I can't get it to buckle without pushing in the red release button all the way first. not seeing many things on here on DIY replacements. I'm almost due for service so I might just ask them to fix it then but wanted to know if it's simple enough to do it myself.
