BFG KOs on First Gen

I actually just made the switch from KO’s to Falken Wildpeaks. I don’t regret it one bit. I am more of a road-going driver with a little time in the dirt spent here and there. The road noise on the falkens is minimal if not non existent. I think they look fuckin great too. I don’t have much input on their off-road performance at the moment, just put the new shoes on 2 weeks ago and have been to busy to go get dirty.

 

Been running KOs then KO2s. Great traction on and off road, almost no road noise, and they last forever. In the rain they do get a bit slippery.

Anyone run Goodyear Wranglers in comparison to KO2s? I was thinking about giving them a shot at some point and seeing if it is worth it.

 

By the way is you are not sure if you want to switch from good old trusted Michelin be assured that BFG tires are actually made by Michelin. Michelin bought the B.F. Goodrich brand name and makes off road tires under that name. This is good name, well known and appreciated in USA for more than a century, so it makes sense for Michelin to buy USA off road marked that easy and keep Michelin name to all tires they already had (road, airplane, heavy machinery). The best thing is that Michelin continues to make excellent off road tires under BFG name and did not f-ed up the brand like many others did (buy a well recognized name and sell crappy products under it).

I've honestly never even heard of that place. SB is 1 hour 15 minutes from my house, don't really go to the eastern portion of the RGV.

@The Driver, ever bring your Tacoma down here?

 

I had Goodyear A/T tires in my Isuzu Rodeo when I bought it back in 1999. They were hard and stiff, OK off road but terrible on pavement. On one bumpy road I couldn't go faster than 45mph. Rodeo was jumping all over the place. After I switched to Michelin A/T I was surprised that road can be driven 65mph with no issues.

I was always Michelin guy and I did not know BFG KO2 when I was installing them first on my 2012 4Runner. I was prepared to end up with the same ride quality as I had with Goodyear A/T but I told myself, anything can be better than the factory Bridgestone Duelers 4Runner had. I was surprised to see the ride comfort with KO2 to be same as with Michelin.

My Tacoma and 4Runner 90% live on pavement, so it is important they don't behave like a stage wagon. For the remaining 10% of driving through my property or forest roads KO2 thread is enough to get me there regardless of the weather.

 

I agree with the other comments re: poor wet traction. My truck tends to get a little squirrely going over potholes in the wet, like the tires want to break loose. It's really easy to peel out on wet pavement too. Sometimes it's fun but other times it's annoying. Good tire for wheeling though, can handle shale rocks pretty nicely.

 

I did, but didn't drive a lot there. My cousin was a bit sick. His oldest son, who is close to my age, lives in San An, so I spent a good deal of time there.

If I do drive to "the valley" again, I'll holler. You could show me the off road areas there!

Do they sell em' with white letters on that particular size?

 

You can get them with white letters, up to any 18" tire size, when they went to the ko'2's, they stopped making white letters for 20's, that's why my tundra don't have white letters, pissed me off.

 

or the kid who drove around with the rear end lifted and the front stock for I think like 3 months.

 

I'm willing to bet that many of the people who complain about how "poorly" the KOs do in the wet might say the same about any tire. Since pickup trucks have zero weight over the drive wheels, they of course have very little traction, and it's worse with a low friction coefficient. That's why lots of people throw snow or sand bags in their beds.
