    Hey all,

I have a fully paid off 2015 TRD Sport 4x4 DC, and have been toying with the idea of trading in for the 3rd gen cement sport or pro. What do you guys think?

I love my truck, but it just feels like an older car driving it (compared to my buddy’s Jeep. I know I know). And the cement gray has been really growing on me.

2014 owner here prior to my 2017. Hated the 2nd gen 1980s interior so I upgraded. Love my 3rd gen, I got all the toys.

However, yours is paid off! IMO, no car payment > new truck. My $0.02.

    2006 sr5, 2011 sr5, and now a 2017 TRD OR.

I've got a manual transmission. Check the truck link in my Signature. It gets used. I like the 3rd gen the best. Some people have had legitimate issues . I've had none. I think a lot of people are cry babies.

I had a 2013 DCSB Sport. Traded for a 2017 WRX and realized I had to have another Tacoma. WRX for 1.5 years, so it wasn't a direct jump to 3rd gen to compare.

I loved my 2nd gen, and I love my 3rd gen. If I still had my 2nd, I wouldn't trade it in for a new truck. I like my new one more, but it's not so much different that taking on a payment, sales tax, excise tax, etc would be worth it.

Imo stick with your current truck unless you have a legitimate, serious issue with it.

I'd only change if your current truck if it didn't meet your needs. For example, I have a first gen Tacoma and that was an awesome truck. It could do 100% of any woodworking job but hauling heavy machinery was not it' strong point. Out of the 10 jobs I could have used it for last year only 1/3 of them I could do with that truck. The rest of the time I had to rent a truck or pay someone else to move it.

The 3rd gen Tacoma with 6500 lbs tow capacity was enough to do all of the jobs I wanted to do. I would have preferred 7k tow but I didn't like the options outside of the Tacoma so I figured I could still make 6.5k work.

Plus, not having to pay for a truck is really nice.

If I was in your position, Id save for the difference in price for a new truck plus what you could sell your current one for. Get a new truck with no payments. By the time you save for it, Make you decision wether you want to part with the money or just use that money to mod your current truck.

I had a 2nd gen, and have owned 2 third gens.

i had s 2014 off road it was terrible, wished i had my 2001 back that i traded in, so it only lasted 6000 miles, traded it for a 2015 black pro, it was a pretty good truck but lacked the interior things i wanted,, so bye bye,, traded it for a 2017 CEMENT PRO., two yrs later still love the truck,, no plans on getting rid of it, not one problem to speak of . if you can afford a Pro its the only way to Go..

I personally would disagree with buying a pro being the only way to go. But thats a different subject entirely. Op, If i could give you any advice, and you are not serious about really modifiying your truck, Id tell you to buy trd offroad.

Or if you are really serious, Id get an SR5, and not pay for all the crap you should change out. Like the lockers and gears you can add, the suspension you can add, the leather you can add. ALL of it you can add. Even a 180 dollar chinapro grill.

traded my 07 OR for a 17 Sport, all good
I'd shop it around to dealers to see what they'd give you on a trade, this may help you decide which way you want to go

Honestly bud. I wouldn't do it, I miss my 2nd gen constantly. Transmissions in the new trucks suck. There really isnt that much of a difference between your 2015 and the others. Keep it and mod it more.

No car payment is nice. But I like the new 6 spd manual in the 2019. I bet you’d get great resale value on that 15 to offset the cost of the 19

Its a terrible financial decision. Have you driven a 3rd gen? Pretty sure they drive pretty similar to the 2nd.

I've had 3 2nd gens, and now I have an '18 OR. I had a RAV4 in between my '15 Sport and this OR. I (thought I) had to get rid of my '15 for financial reasons when I bought a house. Turns out I would have been fine, and had I known then what I know now, I would have kept the '15. Not that there's anything wrong with the '18, but it's not really much better than the '15, and to be honest, I only got the OR over the Sport because I liked the wheels and the fender flares. I've never once used any of the 'extra' 4WD features, and I seriously doubt I ever will. I'm a little embarrassed that I bought into the hype of 'the OR is soooo much better than the Sport'.

Oh yeah, bottom line, keep what you have. While the 3rd gen is nice, it's not worth the extra payments if you already have a great 2nd gen.

    Agreed. Mostly

The 3rd gen MT is better than the 2nd gen MT.

But the OR is definitely better than the Sport if you take it off road. Sounds like YOU don’t take it off road. That’s where the problem is.

You have a paid off truck I’d keep it if I were you. No payments are a big thing. If you want more power get the supercharger. 8 grand on that would be a lot better than payments for a new car for the next few years

Yep...Had a 2015 Tacoma V6 SR5 and I liked it but like you said...the interior is so outdated and basic. I bought a 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 and loved it. Now i have a 2017 TRD Off road 4x4. I wouldnt want to go back to a 2nd gen.
