That most definitely qualifies as my kind of absurdly insane redneck engineering. Although it's a whole lot slower I still like this somewhat better

Cleetus McFarland installed a 76mm turbo on a Corvette with a junkyard 5.3L Gen 3 Vortec truck motor and got 738hp. He ended up taking the Vette to the track and proceeded to :bananadead: the motor! Apparently he's out looking for another 5.3 (preferably a Gen 4) and is planning to rebuild the turbo Vette.

Way before that. I guarantee that the 4th gen body, drivetrain, frame and suspension. Interior mostly designed with only the options, electrical, entertainment etc that are not fleshed out yet.
They are already getting quotes on molds lol.
People don't realize how long this stuff takes. When you are going to produce tens of thousands of something a month, it takes a lot of planning and logistics.

At some point all turbos blow, some blow the engine and they all blow your money.

I enjoy his reviews I like both good and bad. But my personal thought is with reviews. I do not like when they do 0-60 or what truck is faster or what truck drives like a car. It's a truck it's not build for speed. I hear the same arguments with hybrids, oh its not fast of the line that's because it's not meant to be that way. So I like ones where they say hey it drives like a truck it's looks like a truck and oh yea it's a truck.

I agree. A little more low end torque feels nice though. And turbo engines give you that. I miss my Ford Focus ST, but still do not regret trading it for my Tacoma a few months ago.

Unlike some of the Tacoma haters I did do my research and knew ahead of time what I was sacrificing AND gaining with that trade.

One thing with turbos is they add more load to the motor and that is less reliable Toyota doesn't want alot of turbo for that reason. I been a mechanic for over 22 years and I have replaced alot of turbos. Mazda 3 speed turbos were notorious for going bad after 30k

My ST had 55k miles and every one of them was smile inducing. Never had one issue with it. That being said, the longevity of a turbo engine was a doubt I had. So I decided to grow up and let go of the boy racer car. I still miss it greatly tho! Lol

I'd like to understand the difference between a passenger car motor and a naturally aspirated motor.

I really hate the fact that no BIG youtuber ever reviews the manuals. The manual is faster than the auto. Have the manual taco race ranger, canyon, whatever. Granted, i don’t think the taco would win but it definitely would be a close call.

It was the car motors in trucks that created the whole reliability reputation with Toyota.

idk how Doug DeMeiro has seemingly become an overnight internet automotive influencer, half the time he sounds like he has no idea what he's talking about and/or is reading straight from the marketing pamphlet, but I guess he speaks to the masses who look at cars as appliances.
