Hello TW. I am looking to get a 3rd gen. I off-road, and am looking to get either a sport or an OR. Would the sport be better than an OR if I went aftermarket lockers? What other differences are there?

And yes, I’m a loser, I love the scoop and colorway matching...

If you offroad, get a 2nd Gen :anonymous:

Edit: But if you plan on doing something like ARB lockers, getting a sport isnt a terrible idea if you REALLY want the scoop and color matching.

If you are stuck on the faux scoop and color matching AND will be changing out the suspension (regardless of model) AND are going to add aftermarket lockers..........

Then the Sport is fine. Especially if you can buy it cheaper than the OR by some factor less than the cost of a hood swap and aftermarket locker work.

The Sport and Off Road have the exact same MSRP if equipped the same so i doubt he would find either one for a significant difference in cost.

I'd go for the OR. Lockers, bigger rear end, the other offroad goodies.

I test drove both the sport and OR and felt the OR was a more comfortable ride, but i did secretly want a scooped hood...

I have the sport with the scoop. Because of sun glare, I painted the scoop flat black. My truck came with the black hood graphic as well.

Is there any advantage to an aftermarket locker versus the OR locker? like ability to use locker in 4hi?

If the difference isn't a big deal, then seems like getting the OR with the locker and spending the Sport+aftermarket locker money on other improvements would be more efficient.

Are there any other differences between the OR and Sport other than the locker?

I recommend spending time in the paper brochure or the ebrochure at https://www.toyota.com/tacoma/ebrochure/

There is a feature table with all the trims for comparison.

I bought an older 2nd gen sport because it had a stronger/bigger diff than the OR. I threw on some ARBs for the locker. Does anyone know if the OR on the 3rd gens still have a weaker diff?

If it has a stronger diff AND elockers AND crawl control....I mean why not..

All Manual 3rd Gens get the new larger 8 3/4" Rear Diff, as do all OR and Pros.

OP - MT or AT, DC or AC. Those choices will make your decision.

Yup, way more mall cred with the OR decals.
