I'll talk with the lady and see what she thinks, right now driving a lot doesn't sound like fun after our Big Bear fiasco on New Year's Day lol. What a nightmare that was

Father in law was staying with us...me, my wife and him took my xtra cab up to Big Bear in the morning on Tuesday to hit some fire roads and see some snow. He's 6'3 and sat up front, she got crammed in the back jump seats... GPS in the morning said it was a clear shot up to Big Bear lake so we left, by the time we hit the 330 highway up the mountain it was bumper to bumper traffic, never seen it so bad that low on the mountain going up. Made the mistake of going for it anyway, since we planned on getting off at Green Valley Lake Blvd. and taking the fire roads up to Fawnskin.

Took an hour and a half just to go halfway up the mountain to the exit...stop and go traffic on a steep mountain with a manual is no fucking fun at all especially with 3 people crammed in the truck lol. Finally got off at Green Valley and the fire roads were empty, not a soul save for a few Jeeps. They were covered in snow and ice so that part of the trip was fun at least.

Spent a couple hours up there then headed home down the back side through Hesperia which took us almost 3 hours to get home.

Rather stressful day of driving if I do say so myself haha.

Sounds like it, going up that road at that speed sucks for sure haha. I'll add you to the PM just in case you get a super motivated to roll through.

i know i know...Toyota fucked up though and didn't offer the double cab 1st gens with a manual trans. Someday I'll get a family-friendly rig for camping when the time is right.

Dunno about 'best gen' but yeah in hindsight I should've held out for one, lol. At the time though, the low mileage 4x4 double cab 2nd gens were well out of my price range...though this truck was too but I couldn't pass it up.

Dunno for sure, Big Bear always has good options this time of year with the snow but after having just been up there I don't really feel like I'm up for that drive again esp with weekend traffic.

Unfortunately MJT is closed this time of year but if you and Keith are down maybe we could just hit up good ol' Rowher/Drinkwater. Or if we wanted to possibly see some snow we could do Pilot Rock and take that up into Lake Arrowhead, I know the fire roads back there that lead from the end of Pilot Rock up to the lake...there's a good brewery up there too.

Can’t go wrong with rowher, but never been to pilot rock so that might be cool, either way I’m down for whichever. There is some rain in the forecast for this weekend, no exactly sure what time though.

oooooooh all the more reason to wheel, nice let me ponder on it a bit and I'll touch base with you guys tonight or early tomorrow

I've done Pilot Rock like 100 times this year lol, but it's always a good time and more fun when you're with someone that hasn't done it before.
