going to be painting the "chrome" bumper caps on my TRD OR, and my question is,
dupli-color makes a bedliner spray paint to use, which on do I use, solvent based or water based?
    or does it matter??

I used Bediner on mine and it comes right off lol. My friend rubbed his palm on it and it literally just chipped off.

I’m gonna have to scuff them and re-do it with self-etching primer at some point

Maybe a plastic paint with flex agent would do a little better.

Yeah, I wanted to avoid plastidip because it’s also temporary... but it would definitely hold up better than this bedliner. I’m sure one day I’ll just shell out the $70 to get the paint matched cap covers lol

Right I would not use Plasti-dip either, I was speaking of actual paint designed for plastic surfaces as it has a flex agent.

You have to take the "chrome" off down to the bare plastic. Then you can prime and paint.

I did mine with the same bed liner after a good scuffing. It holds up reasonably well for me. If I do get a ding or scratch, it's easily re-sprayed in that area.

use an adhesion promoter and scuffing as previously mentioned. Same thing if you were to paint.

did you use a water or solvent based paint??
just trying to figure out all the details and steps for when I actually do this project.

I have to wait until it gets to decent weather in Dallas right now.
it was 33 degrees this morning with hard fat Forrest Gump rain

Maybe i am wrong, but it seems like Bedliner would never really adhere to plastic parts.

I think they definitely are worth it. No permanent change to the truck. Sturdy too

    This ^.

You won’t wont get a good or lasting bond to chrome with paint products.

I looked into a wrap also, would’ve cost $200 for a shop to do or about 50 for for the vinyl for me to do it myself. Tech says it only lasts about a year due to stretching it down the bottom curve.

After researching, caps seem to be the most durable option and as a bonus, it’s removable if you changed your mind.

You can go factory caps too, like for the tech package, but they are more expensive.

Any $100-200 mod is a decent price.

I bought new plastic ones and had them painted. They look fantastic! My truck is black so I wanted the caps to be the same shiny black and not flat black.

This is what I used: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Ole...MIxLKV7Z3U3wIVDCCtBh1w_gUcEAQYAiABEgJlg_D_BwE

I'm not sure if it's solvent based or not. It worked well and has held up pretty well.
