I had to ditch the Taco, I ran out of room. I went with the Z71. I’m shopping for a first gen taco to throw 40” tires under and roll rocky hills.

ECT doesn’t effect mpg that much. And the truck is much more fun to drive at lower mph’s.

Your son likes the truck. All that matters. :)

Hey I hear you on ITS NOT a BMW. I have been working on bmws for 13 years and have pretty much just drove bmws other than a ranger for a short time and jeep for a couple years. Toyota leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the refinement and engineering Bmw provides. But what I love about my truck is I can go off roading in it and treat it like the truck that it is. When I start getting upset at all the little things that toyota cheaped out on I go off roading and it reminds me how nice it is to have a 4x4 truck and being able to go places I wouldn't have been if my dd was a BMW.

I didn’t read through all the comments but I’m sure it’s been said. Having come from a BMW and the luxuries and comfort, I think the best choice for you might of been a ridgeline.

I have to disagree with this, this has nothing to do with holding value, just a car dealership thats going to have that truck for years unless they drop the price or some sucker buys it. 156k miles for ~30k after taxes? Would you spend that kinda money for that? Not bashing any taco generation, thats just a piss poor money grab attempt

Honestly in my opinion its hard to use these expensive trucks as well.. trucks. Offroad, towing and hauling is rough on everything and you should expect dents, scratches, chips, part failure the whole 9 yards. Just because its a popular brand dont mean its invicible. If i didn't use my truck as a truck id 100% sell it and get a car, in fact i day dream about getting a blue corolla hatch with manual trans, but the offroading, towing and absolute ruggedness is not something i can get rid of as i adventure ALOT in the summer time, and yep my truck is full of bush rash, dents, cosmetic rust and some issues from towing and hauling some heavy ass loads. If i ever find a point in my life where i dont NEED a truck it will be gone and replaced with something fun to drive. Just my 10 cents, if you're babying it, you'll never enjoy it to its fullest.
Also as a side note, dont consider resale when purchasing a vehicle, if thats on your mind, you're treating it as something thats disposable after a few years and it will make you even more afraid to treat it as intended. :burnrubber:

Came to my 18 from a 13, wouldnt go back for anything. You came to a truck from a BMW, it's going to ride worse...every single truck on the market will.

OP I went from a 2017 330i Wagon. Loved it. It was a big change going to the 2019 DCLB, but I'm quickly acclimating to it. Taken a few road trips already, and sure the engine seems weak as hell when you come from a 250 HP Twin Turbo, but it's a fine truck and it will serve you well with all the adventuring, camping, hauling, and screwing around you'll do in the future.

I just drove miles up a snow packed trail (with a Jeep friend) FAR from another human, parked it, set up the camp chair, cracked a beer and just hung out for a few hours. Those are the kinds of things that will get your mind off the speedy luxury car. Hope this helps!

5k for taxes?? Where do you live so I know never move there. 5k is a reach. And like I said a couple posts down I know it’s priced a little higher than it’ll sell for. Even if it sells for $21k-22k I’d be impressed.

I think...well I know that I'm a PITA! I sold my BMW because I couldn't enjoy it in my area. Couldn't drive it in snow (4" clearance) bad roads, anxious cops, stop signs/lights every 1/2 mile, and I was losing my ass on the value (2014 orig price 60k, 2016 I paid 41k pre-owned, sold this past Sept for 23k!!! Now that's crazy!!), so I wanted something I could use as Joe Homeowner. I have a utility trailer that I use quite a bit in the spring and summer and tying up the wife's Honda Pilot wasn't practical (she hated driving the BMW). I also thought it would be awesome to give the truck to my son in 8 or 9 years. That would be 3 or 4 years without a payment and he would get a reliable, known maintained and safe (slow) truck.

I bought the Sport model because I don't offroad at all and my area (coastal VA) doesn't really have any options anyway. I'm not an outdoors guy, no camping/fishing/hunting. One for sure reason I bought the truck is I picked up road cycling and loading the bike in the BMW was a major hassle (no roof rack as it was garage kept). Another reason is it's great for family trips to the beach. Throw the sandy gear in the back and roll.

Do I truly need a truck? No. Is a truck nice to have and convenient? Yes.

As I mentioned, I'm going to give it a year or two and I'll see how this thing grows on me. I'm hoping to get some snow so I can at least have a reason to use 4wd. I also think that once spring comes I will find that having a truck is a game changer.

Another thought...pulling a boat would surely put this thing to use! I better stop...

Dont move to canada ;) and I'd never even consider buying a high mileage truck for even 21-22k. My truck had 70k miles and i payed 7000cad =~ 5200usd. Payed about 150$ cad to convert it to an sr5 (cruise control, adjustable wipers, power mirrors etc). All in all if i payed 50k for a truck, it would be doing the exact same stuff im doing now, except id have leather seats? Surly you cant convince me that that truck (a different version of a tacoma) is worth ~5x as much with double the mileage

Yeah i get it, its good to feel it out for a year. I used to plow through snow (over 2ft dumpings) in my fwd pontiac g5. It was an absoulte tank, i loved passing stuck people in 4wd and awd in my little car lol. The only thing that made me realize i needed a truck was i started to get into camping, ending up taking that car through some nasty trails, smashed a bunch of shit then went and bought a 4cyl 2wd ford ranger. Loved that thing until rust ate it :(

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
I have had maybe a dozen Toyota trucks over the years. I have kept this 2016 the longest with the most miles and love it (33 months at 24,000 miles).

FWIW ... I didn't like the transmission shifting and engine power band when I first got it ... but I got used to it and ...

Now, most of the time, I I love it as I leave it in S-3 and shift from S-3 t S-4 in town.

Tacoma is still the best small truck on the planet IMO ... I do miss the "grab handle" on the driver's side though.

PS ... I have NOT had any transmission TSB's or any Toyota service since I bought it. I do my own old changes and filters and minor things.
