I’m hearing a noise coming from my engine bay that sounds like a power steering pump failure but the steering has no play to the noise. It just randomly comes and goes. Any ideas on what it may be? I’m think idler pulley or timing belt maybe.

My buddy has a bad vibration at hwy speeds. We replaced his center support bearing(it was worn out bad) But it still has a bad vibration. Any other ideas? We are going to replace his engine mounts and tranny mounts on Saturday.

His truck lifted? Stock? If it's stock and he doesn't do any wheeling, it's probably just his tires out of balance somehow. Easiest place to start anyway

Indeed. These guys restore Tacomas for sale in Puerto Rico where they fetch top dollar. Anyway, they knew they were letting this go for a song and they knew that I appreciated it. It was a really friendly cool vibe. One of the nicest sales I’ve participated in on CL. The two guys spent a solid half hour plus with me getting it installed and clamped.

I’m the type to sort of pay things forward and sell cheap on CL too so it was just a good karma type of thing all around.

It is a lot more cap than I’d planned on, but we’re Sportsmobile owners and I’m planning on getting this rig set up as a hybrid overland and home project truck. We’re cyclists and backwoods hikers and campers and I’m onlymjust beginning to imagine the possibilities with a rack that large on this truck.

Oh okay, I've only been there once and it seemed like it was more suited to super Moto and dirt bikes.

    Bought some new furniture

Also put this thing away again, Barto this would be a good spot to practice backing. It has obstacles but they're all sort of low and you can't really do damage but you know if you hit them. Except for the power transformer, that one does damage.

Are the engine and tranny mounts bad? I’d Hate to throw parts and money at it if they aren’t bad.

Is the problem a vibration at speed? I wouldn't think you'd get a very big vibe from bad motor mounts, maybe from a bad trans mount but even then not as likely as a rotating part

Have you looked at all the u-joints? I assume you have, just never know. Vibrations are a pain to locate at times. I need to have the spare I rotated in balanced again.

Your power steering pump reservoir screen could be clogged.

I have what I think to be a failing fuel pump that sounds almost identical to a whining power steering pump. I usually have stuff in my backseat and I originally thought it was coming from the engine bay. I removed the PS belt and still had the noise so that was ruled out. I've noticed the whine seems to stop when I let off the throttle so I'm leaning toward the fuel pump.

Those whines can be so many different things. When the water pump went in my 22re, it made a PS like whine. Idler pulleys can make similar noises too once the bearings get so seized that they wont move at all, that happened to the same 22re too. Still have the pulley, that bearing will not spin no matter how hard you try.
