What are these emissions tests things you guys talk about? North Dakota, Wyoming, and Idaho born, raised, and living. @ThomasMore66 I am a child of the oil and gas industry. My dad was in it before I was born and just retired from it 2 years ago. I dabbled in it in the summers in high school and right out of high school. Definitely a tough industry. But we survived Enron, just had to start completely over.

Enron...they affected all of us. Company I worked for...our stock went in the shitter because of Enron. I know about the starting over.

Sorry to hear that. My dad met the cheats in some meeting he had to fly to Houston for a few months before the whole collapse. He said they didn't seem like honest people and something wasn't right while he was there. But he was there to help with a buy-out of his current field. They bought themselves out to be a Employee owned company/subsidiary right before it all went down. That is where EOG came from if you have heard of them. Before the collapse EOG was for Enron Oil & Gas. It soon got changed to Energy Opportunity & Growth. But everyone still lost everything except their actual job because all the retirement and benefits were through Enron still. Didn't ever think about how it recoiled the whole industry. At that age for me I had no idea how large the industry was.

 

My suggestion is check smaller shops. Those guys really work for their bucks. They wont have corporate to answer to. The right guy knows if he keeps his mouth shut its money in hand. I'd propose a cash idea as well.

 

Hahah yeah I found a guy nearby that has a 4Runner, wanted a Tacoma, we talked shop for a while and then I tried to low key bring it up and he immediately backed down and said "yeah just swap the stock stuff in and you're good to go!". In my head I was like 'Mfer that's why I brought it up in the first place' lol

Got my afe intake today. Damn those guys. You need to use stock air box fasteners. I sold mine. The tiny vacuum hose threaded opening actually fits a meth nozzle perfectly. Too bad it's in front of the maf sensor. If a little water from my urd intake geeks it out I'm sure a steady blast of alcohol wouldn't be funny at all.

 

I think when the two metals are directly touching there is. But if they’re insulated from one another by some sort of sealant, the corrosion might not occur. Not sure if that is true but it sounds good in my head.

 

What fasteners do you need exactly?......I should have them cuz I still have my stock air box. I can send em to ya....

 

Basically yes. I have used dissimilar metal tape on aircraft many times.

If it were me I'd either find an aluminum boss or use a good epoxy.

Essentially for newish vehicles, it is a visual inspection along with a code scan to show that all emissions systems test are complete and no CEL’s are pending. During the visual inspection they look to make sure everything is stock. Especially THE CATs. They make sure they are all present, and will sometimes confirm the oem part number. For vehicles 2007 and newer, there are very few (essentially zero) aftermarket cat replacements that the California Air Resource Board has approved. You must have factory cats or factory replacements. Anything else is an instant fail. Also, under the hood, they’ll look at any aftermarket parts, and any of said parts must have a CARB EO number which is an exemption order that allows that partt to be used. Anything obvious that doesn’t have one is a fail.

Doesn’t matter if the parts make the exhaust as pure as water, it doesn’t pass.

I built up a Chevy truck once, I always took a binder with all the EO print outs and pictures of the parts from the manuals. Everything that was questioned, I just handed them the binder. Never had an issue.

One thing that has me concerned with my Toyota is the UCON that I have. When I use my KENWOOD head unit to replicate the gauges(scan gauge) it sees that there is already something attached to the ECU. Hopefully this doesn’t bite me in the rear when I have to get sniffed in March.
