Friend of Mine just bought a new Ranger...shock

To change the oil; here is the procedure:

A service procedure obtained by TTAC states that, after removing the left front wheel, a technician or owner must then remove an access panel secured by nine push-pin retainers. From there, one removes the filter with an end cap tool. To actually drain the oil, which of course you’ll accomplish before attacking that filter, you’ll first need to unbolt the power steering control module underbody shield. Four bolts hold that on.

Now if you for afterthought maybe forgot one of the push-pins or tighten the filter.....go through the whole routine again.

 

Wow!! Guess Ford wants you to take the truck to the dealer for all it's service. Crazy!!

 

That's nice to know and all, but why did you post this in the 3rd gen section? There's no mention or any relation to a 3rd gen Tacoma in your OP.

You take the tires off to do a rotation at the same time as the oil change. And if you forget a push pin you can cut the wheel and reach in to press the pin. If not then we’ll maybe you’re not competent enough to be changing your oil.

 

But I bet it has a transmission fluid dipstick

 

I suspect it's for attention. I wonder if the friend actually bought one or was this a cut and paste from one of the other threads.

Just when you thought every possible oil change topic had been beaten to death......enter Ranger....

 

Meh? It is about the same for the 3rd Gens other than the bumper cover.

But then, I do like cartridge filters.

I'd do any of the cars / trucks / bikes that I had over the GM cars my folks had growing up. Reaching in the wheel well mid winter using weaksause metal strap wrenches? Nope!

That's said, the burn scars on my forearms have finally healed after ditching my Ural. I gave up trying to change the oil on the fucking hot motor with that thing. Dead cold equals no 2nd deg burns on the headers.

 

I wonder if the Ranger owners will be changing oil every 3 to 5k. I may have to lurk the ranger forums to scope this out.
