    Thank your for helping several times along the way. Yeah, what was interesting is dealer said I should use 0w-20 synthetic. But maintain a 5000 mile interval. I was a bit surprised on both counts. I said you mean, 5-30? He said in this region 0-20. Even in an 05.

    So in all. New head gaskets with lifetime warranty, new oil, water pump, alternator, & long life coolant. I already had the wp and alternator but they installed for me. Total $3452.69.

    Also kept the old alt and will rebuild it. Brushes took a hit, esp when prior owner ran HID lights.

    Was glad I didn't do this myself. Probably would have got stuck at the manifold. Several seized nuts at exhaust maniford (3 nuts and a stud on right side, pic 3), bolts on alternator and the front cover the had to be replaced. Good thing is if the cats goes bad, I could probably do it now.

    Negative. Since the SAIS components won't be used, non need for the ECM to follow. Just swapping the valve covers an headers over, is all that is necessary. Furthermore, it's already been done on this form just as such.

    Aaaand just threw a check engine light. Ran 30 miles before it came on. Only thing I notice is shifter is stiff. Auto transmission. Called dealer and back on for tomorrow am.

    Used torque and obdii scanner to find my code. P0705. Never had it before until after the head gasket repair.
    P0705 – Transmission range (TR) sensor/switch, PRNDL input circuit malfunction.

    So it was the shift cable binding. They sprayed it with lube and now it works fine again. They gave me a part number and said to keep an eye on it. They said repair is easy, but part is expensive.

    Check engine light off, hopefully for at least a few months.

    Yeah man. Long tail on that kite. A few sleepless nights too. Was so great to drive without issues today! Like a glove!

    @Benny123
    I'm curious. Can you summarize where the worst of the HG failure occurred? Was it the driver's side?

    Hmmm. I've seen cyl. 6 referenced a number of times before with other reports on HG failure. Anyone got ideas as to why that side of the engine? FWIW, the driver's side is also where the majority of HG failure occurred on the infamous Subaru EJ25 engine, mine included.

    Man I hope I never have this issue, I guess it's not a problem on the models past 2005 right? That was literally bankrupt me haha

    Design that needed to be improved, which was. Cylinder 6 runs the hottest, due to path of coolant flow. Is also closest to the firewall. (Even more heat). Weakest link basically.

    Cylinder wobble to the nature of the open deck could also be attributed, but that would be a long stretch, at these power levels.

    Was that redesign the 2GRFE or the 2012 on 1GRFE? I know the gasket changed late 06.
