Don’t even consider a 4Runner if you’re looking at full size and need an accessible and functional third row.

Mine had the third row seat. Good for 2 kids, but if you have to try and use the third row seat for anything you’re really sacrificing a lot.

A friend of mine has 4 kids and a 3rd row 4Runner says exactly this. The 4Runner is the wife’s vehicle and she’s trading it on a sienna very soon.

As much as i hate minivans, they are 100% functional...but lets cross that bridge when we get there.

i was in your shoes recently when we got a surprise 3rd baby and neither the Tiguan nor the Tacoma could hang with 3 kids seats and our travel needs. i set up a deal for a 2018 Sequoia 4x4 TRD loaded up, almost bought it, and my wife vetoed cus she did not want a full size monster like that. plus, she likes driving and wants great seats and the Sequoia fails there relative to other options. so we were looking for a 3 row SUV with AWD for our family hauling and yearly Colorado mountain winter trips, safety/reliability, and a good comfortable drive. and i wanted it a little sporty as well.

turns out one of my client's husband is the MD of DFW's biggest Volvo dealership. so i eventually got a 2019 loaded XC90 R-Design after doing lots of research and a couple test drives, wife is over the moon with it. the seats are the best ever, the AWD is amazing (in CO with it now), and although it's huge inside it still drives like a Euro sport sedan. never thought I'd be happy with something like that but i am. massively impressed with it and would buy it again no questions. maybe worth a look.

and i get to keep my Tacoma for me!

we had an old 740 Turbo wagon 5MT. that was a fun car and so i was open to Volvo because of that one. and i was hoping for a MT (so was the wife), but there's nothing in the category nowadays. so, compromises looked thick when we started the process, but turns out we just sacrificed the MT and got lots of other bonuses. plus this one has paddles, but i never use those. just included with the sport model.

if you do, definitely test the one with the T6 drivetrain & AWD. and put it in Dynamic (high performance) mode when you do. but first, just enjoy the seats, holy crap are they nice. i think they are part of the R-design trim. they aren't in the lower trims.

My wife and I rented a 2017 Tahoe for our trip to Florida this year. It was just the two of us but it was a great traveling vehicle - but boy it is big. Don't think I'd want one as a daily driver.

It was definitely comfortable, and for a 5.3 we averaged over 20 miles to the gallon for the trip which was really great. The range was more than we could handle without stopping :)

I didn't care for the lane assist and kept it off for the entire trip. The model we had didn't even have side view monitoring which was a bit of a surprise even though it was an LT. It also had cylinder deactivation, which made for some odd droning sounds when it was engaged.
