Yes it is stupid!! The 4.0 Tacoma is hands down the easiest vehicle I've ever changed oil on. I mean the oil filter damn near smacks you in the face when you open the hood.

Looking at another truck forum, there's a lot of "that's not even that bad, that's like an extra five minutes."

Ultimately they aren't wrong but still a PITA - plus working underneath your truck while it's on a jack/jackstand just to change oil??? I get doing it when you NEED to but you shouldn't NEED to every 5k miles! No thanks!

Saw this yesterday - just crazy
I have friend who is an engineer, says the problem is the guy who designs this stuff isn't the one who has to fix/work on it
Might not even be in the same building/state or country

If I was considering the ranger, this would give me pause. I'm glad I'm not considering the ranger. If you don't do any of your own wrenching, I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Ford engineers have never been the brightest bulbs. The 5.4 with the spark plugs that break in half.
The 4.2 with the spark plugs that shoot out of the cylinders
The 3.5 Edge with the brake booster that fails every other tank of gas
The 3.5 weakoboost with the timing chain rattle
The 6.0 diesel. Piece of shit
    I can keep going

The v10 with spark plugs stripping anything more tha finger tight
The new focus has a counterintuitive evap system that will air lock the fuel pump causing it to read half tank when you're really on fumes
I should just go to our shop yard and look at all the work trucks....I think every ford we have has something wrong with it

Sadly, I can see Toyota moving in that direction. I mean look at how the 3rd gen oil change is now compared to the 2nd gen.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
While a pain in the ass for those of us that do our own oil changes. The truth is that most people are just going to take it to the dealer to have the oil changed.
