They do look similar except short hairs generally have the tails docked. A looking closer short hairs have a blockier muzzle. Both are fine dogs though.

 

Some setters have pretty long fur. The ones with longer fur would be pretty hard to mistake for a GSH. Also the fur on his ears and flags gets shorter throughout the hunting season because he gets into burdock and other things, and we have to trim it out. Here is another photo of him.

Went out with a buddy and Devin. Was fun. Saw a band live with old college buddies in it. And reconnected with some old high school acquaintances I hadn't seen in years. They live in Billings so have some new friends to hang out with.

Devin is passed out on the floor right now. Fun night for her but gonna be a rough day tomorrow haha

Yep, I’ve only made it about 10% thru so far. It is ridiculously immersive though, I’ve also popped in FFXV for a little bit. These new games are ridiculous, like playing one giant cut-scene.

 

Also spruced my garage up a little bit. No more buying the same tool three times because I can’t find the ones I already have.

A question about 6 point and 12 point sockets for all of you pro wrencher guys. I recall from way long time ago (could be faulty memory) that 6 point were better because they were stronger. Is this generally true or are there other advantages and disadvantages?

Does the reasoning for choosing one over the other change if we are talking impact sockets? Deep impact sockets?

 

I don't know that 6-point are stronger per-se (it's all the same metal), but they do reduce the likelihood of rounding over a head because you have more contact between the bolt head surface and the socket surface.

This of course becomes more important, the more force you have to apply. For impact, I generally always try to use a 6-point for this reason - there's a ton of force in short, repeated bursts.

If you're looking to get an impact set, I really like this one that I got since it's 6-point and covers most of the sizes we need in both shallow and deep varieties. It's identical to some of the more expensive sets, except for the name printed on each piece.

 

Yeah, maybe that was the reasoning. That sounds right. But it makes me wonder why anyone would want a set of 12 point deep impact sockets.

Are all of the sockets in the Amazon kit you got 6 pointers?

edit: I like your kiit but iis has many sizes in it that I probably would not use with my impact gun. It also seems to be missing some sizes I use fairly regularly. Do you bring that kit with you on our adventures?

 

The main benefit of 12 point sockets are more available positions you can fit the socket over a nut or bolt. For everything else though 6 point sockets are the way to go. More material.

 

There are a lot of manufacturers that use 12point bolts on heads, manifolds and driveline straps. 6 point sockets lower the chance of rounding bolt heads/nuts of because of the larger surface area of each individual flat.

 

12 points are handy at times actually for grabbing better than a 6 point on a rounded head. You can't apply the same amount of force but sometimes they work better in some cases.

 

Or when you only have your 12 point metric sockets and need to use them on an SAE nut

 

Yep, all 6 point.

I do bring it with me on trips now. I agree that there are a bunch of sizes we don't generally use, but it's already been nice to have the SAE sizes a few times for aftermarket parts, so I just bring them all along.

What sizes is it missing that you use frequently? Curious because maybe I'm missing a size I need...

 

I keep all my 12-pointers in a separate drawer, I almost never need them unless a bolt actually has a 12-point head or I need to remove a square head bolt. With all the mechanical stuff I do that drawer still manages to gather dust on the handle. Only time in recent history I actually needed a 12 point was for removing the flywheel bolts on my 3RZ

 

It’s great man, I absolutely love it. Put a little over 5k miles on it already haha.

Oil change, and some MT90 in the trans (thanks Marc) and she’s golden. Need to get around to doing the diffs in the coming months.

Watched that the other day lol they kinda butchered the 2nd/3rd gen clips but pretty cool overall
