How is that different than everyone saying it CAN'T be done that have never wheeled a DB kit?

Back in the day, when none of us had any money, the progression on Yota minitrucks was always some cheap ass DB kit while we saved up for SAS. Plenty of people throughout history have wheeled DB kits. The truck isn't going to explode.

My neighbor is sponsored by Falken, Warne and CVT. He runs Landcruiser, GX and 4Runner. Does 14 day trips across country and posts on YouTube for a community of 20k plus fans. He would never put a 6” drop bracket style lift on any of his rigs because it’s unnecessary and creates more problems than benefit (in most cases)...just saying

I agree 100%. That’s just sad at that point that a man or woman would need to go to that length for something these days just gets thrown around like it’s nothing and means nothing. If it takes a $5k-$10k setup to grab a man or woman’s attention to have sex, what else is it going to take for the rest of the relationship. See ya later

And I've been wheeling for 20 years, have built dozens of extremely capable rock crawlers at the professional level, and I put a DB kit on my personal DD. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal. Which is why I said there are few "truths" it's mostly personal preferences.

I’m not arguing or challenging. I actually think “rock-crawling” is unique in its own and deserves a custom setup to be right. I won’t take my Tacoma purposely crawling, but if some obstacles arise without causing severe rectum reversal than bring it on.

Off-roading is a broad term and in most cases driving not on street. Rock crawling is a whole different category in my opinion. I’m partial to desert running at 80mph and trail riding rock trails into sweet fishing spots.

I bought it for everything. But went with the 3rd gen over the 2nd gen because it does get significantly better mpgs

Asks for "proof" you can wheel with a DB Lift...

Provides requested "proof" in the form of several videos...

Immediately discards "proof" because it doesn't fit his opinion...

    Classic TW logic.

I don't like DB lifts either but if the dude (or dudette) wants to cut their frame and do a DB lift then  DB trucks look awesome!

Fact: a DB lift is NOT as solid or capable as a conventional lift. I think that would be hard to argue effectively. I mean you have to cut a big chunk out of the cross member, that can't be good for hard core offloading. (Unless you are reinforcing the thing with plates and gussets...) A conventional lift can likely go places and attack obstacles that a DB probably couldn't due to clearance alone.

But again if the op wants the look and isn't planning on hitting hardcore rock crawling trails then :notsure: let them do their thing!

Opinions are just that opinions. Some people don't like 3rd gens, some don't like 1st. Some dont like Pros some do, some dont like DB lifts abd some do... Thank God cause if not we would have a bunch of silver non lifted stock wheeled 2nd gens rolling around and no variety...

:broccoli: Not everyone likes broccoli some of us like BACON!! :dancingbacon:

The BDS kit (which is the only one I have direct knowledge of, not trying to shill) does actually brace/replace that cut cross-member pretty extensively. I would say the big argument against DB kits would be the leverage placed on the factory control arm brackets by the drop bracket kit, and not that it will fold or anything like that, but if you think about the fact that a HARD hit on a rock could possibly shift that bracket even 1/32 of an inch... that changes the alignment. But honestly, alignment after hard wheeling is a problem with many IFS suspensions.

As for the clearance, I was curious so I started this thread. Maybe some data can come out of this pissing match

That’s because GA is loaded with good ol boys who buy GMC/Dodge/Ford/Chevy, immediately jack them up to high heaven on whatever cheap lift they can get a hold of and throw what essentially amount to cinder blocks on the rear lol.

I guess similar to the SoCal trucks that do the same except the Cali guys like more of a rear end squat.

I’ve rarely seen a lifted truck up in DC area. Probably not practical to DD up here lol. Too many parking garages.

My wife thinks my truck is sexy...and she says lift height is inversly proportional to penis size...so if I had a 6in lift when we first started dating she would have assumed I was compensating heh.

I've had chicks in Jeep's follow me on the highway and take pics of my truck. I don't need my truck to pick up the ladies, but I won't complain that it helps heh.

Like I said, I have a small lift so I am compensating, just normal compensating, not overcompensating, just a little bit. Heh heh. When I first got those Kings my wife mentioned that the reservoirs looked like balls. .. I said "you mean like this?"

If your looking at 6in lifts then your mind is already made up. If you get anything smaller you will always want to go higher. Just get the 6in kit. Ide recommend going full coilovers and leafs instead of spacers and blocks. I bought my truck used with a rough country 6in kit already installed and it rides fine. Eventually I want to replace the spacers with coilovers and leafs but I have no issues with the ride. I'm on 305/65/17 no regearing. Some people will hate it some people won't. Do what you like most
