I'm trying to figure out what transmission is in this truck.

For example, the truck I have now has a NV-3500 5-speed by New Venture Gear. Easy to find specs online for it.

Does the 3rd gen V6 4x4 have the Aisin trans, same as the older Tacomas with the 4.0, or is it a different unit?

I'm looking at a Tacoma to replace my aging tow rig in a few years. Right now I have a truck with 235hp @ 4800 and 295 torque @ 3200 with the 5-speed and it tows 4500lbs beautifully, even up hills with the A/C on. I'm worried that the Tacoma won't have enough torque - 30 ft-lbs less and way up at 4600 RPM.

The 3rd Gen Tacoma 6MT is the Toyota RC62F and is only available with 4WD.

The 4WD Trucks with the 6MT are good for 6500lbs. The 6MT trucks are geared lower and run higher RPMs than the automatic models. They will tow what they are rated for and are tested using SAE J2807.

The 3.5 makes its power in the higher ranges but it even the older 4.0 needed 4000rpms to make peak torque and only had 236hp.

The 3rd Gen Manual is a nice upgrade over the 2nd Gen Manual.

If you are planning to tow with a 3rd gen Tacoma, definitely get the 6 speed manual. I’ve towed thousands of miles at this point and it’s been great.

I had a 2016 auto for a while and towing was a painful experience

The gear ratios in the manual are so much better for towing. I also average significantly better fuel economy as a result.

It pulls 4500 fine. It does not like 6K+.

Need to do a clutch replacement on the 2GR-FKS and sadly it seems like no one makes a heavier flywheel. Have any of you seen one?

URD is out of stock with no ETA on new stock or plans to restock

LCE was developing one but the engineer who was developing it left the company in the middle of development.

I would imagine a heavier flywheel wod improving towing even more due to smoother shifting with a heavy fw

None other than removing ground effects and putting usable tires on it.
Does anyone know if there is a bell housing available to swap the RC62F into a 2nd gen 4runner with a 3.0 engine?
