Anything welding

Lol thanks man. This is my 4th time welding. I just bought the machine on black Friday so this is a whole new learning experience for me and I've been having fun. I'm lucky to have some pretty experienced people give me tips online so it's been nice having people tell me when I'm doing something right or wrong.

 

As long as you don't weld your fingers you're doing alright!

Where r u guys buying Lincoln electric welding wire? I've seen a $15dlls price difference between .030 & .035 at home depot. I've been using the Vulcan brand so far so good, I just want to try a different brand.

 

I end up getting most of mine online. Unless Im at the local welding store for something then Ill pick some up there. But online has generally been the cheapest around me. Just wish the local welding store wasnt way out of the way for me

 

I buy wire once a year what ever distributor gives me the best quote on my order

 

I always just buy whatever flavor my buddy at central welding is selling. Never had any issues from them.

 

Today`s Lesson is numbers to know that 240VAC is not the same as 480VAC

This happens now and then as companies expand put up new buildings some now have 480VAC some still have 240VAC even though outlets and machines are both labeled .

Now as newer equipment is bought that has the different styles of working on what ever voltage you feed it not a problem.

Then getting every machine up and running gets some real oldies back into use .

I suggested linking everything to 480VAC then they would not work on the lower voltage .

I feel better now!!

 

What about 120/208V

 

That only happens when people do things dumb at home and wire 208/220 VAC circuits for some reason with a receptacle for 120VAC so very against code .

It happens when people buy or rent new places . Now and then

I was just kidding around with your statement, about voltages. It was a confusing statement, as im an electrician and wasnt sure what you ment by it. 120/208v was the norm back in the day for commercial, now days its still around but 277/480v is more common as most commercial lighting is 277v as its more efficient. 480 can be stepped down easly to 208.
120/ 240v is less common in most areas buts its around, watch out for the high leg.

I like to keep this thread basic so new welders feel comfortable asking questions.

Craig gets to see both sides of the equation. Lots if commercial and lots of consemer types. No fault on him, he just needs to vent after seeing the same issue come up repeatedly.

@Shmellmopwho finally got around to practicing my vertical welding again. Had my 210 set at 5/50 and welding down. Here are my results. Top half is vertical down and the bottom half is some overhead I was trying out. Seems as though your advice was spot on. Thanks for all the help and input!

 

Heck yeah dude! No problem!! Looking good! I love the sound it makes when you get it dialed into just the right spot haha

 

Oh yeah. Great sound. And no spatter. Haha.
